"That one is Orion."
"No stupid, that one is."
"No it's not."
"Yes it is."
"No it's not."
"Are you seriously telling me that I am pointing to the wrong star?"
"..Yes."
"I seriously hate you right now."
"Doubt that really."
"You underestimate me and my hatefulness."
James and Regulus had been sitting on that couch for hours, talking away about everything and anything that came to mind. They had taken opposite ends of the couch, backs against the arms, but their legs were tangled with each other - and both of them made no move to remove them. There had been no more talk about the darker topics, James seeing that Regulus was not in the right headspace after talking about Sirius.
Regulus was looking very unamused at James, who was just staring back with a very smug expression. Why he thought he knew the stars and constellations better than the boy who taught him, he didn't know. Maybe he just liked seeing Regulus angry.
It was cute.
"That one is Orion."
"Are you stupid? That one is clearly Vega. It's completely different James." James almost shuddered at his name coming out of Regulus' mouth. He didn't say it often, but fuck when he did..
James simply smirked, finally giving away that he was just messing with him, and Regulus kicked his leg, hard.
"Ah fuck Reg, jesus." James groaned as he leaned to rub his shin. Regulus seemed to be frozen however, simply staring at him, with an almost confused expression.
"Reg?"
James looked from his leg to see his face.
"Do you not want me calling you that?"
"No.. no I like it." Regulus replied after a beat with a small smile, meeting James' stare for a few moments before looking away towards the glass wall and out the French fields.
Reg.
James couldn't seem to stop smiling as he thought the name over and over again. He really didn't mean for it to slip out, but it just happened so naturally. And now he could say it whenever he wanted.. James almost giggled in glee. Sighing in content, he leaned back against the arm of the couch whilst watching Regulus look out the glass, before thinking about earlier that night.
"Hey, who's those two guys you're always with? Blonde and brunette." James asked, not bothering to hide his curiosity.
"Blonde is Evan Rosier, and the other one is Barty Crouch." Regulus says after a moment of staring at James. Ah, those were them. James vaguely remembered their names from the start of the year, he had just completely forgotten for whatever reason.
"Do you like them?"
"What?"
"Do you like them?" James repeated, smiling slightly at the boy.
"Evan is a twat, but he's fine once you're his friend. Barty is.. he's fine. He's nicer." Regulus says, whilst James tries to read every emotion that flashes across his face. He seemed to like both of them, although there seemed to be more to the story with the Crouch guy.
"Crouch doesn't seem to hate me." James says cheerfully as he grinned at Regulus, who just arched an eyebrow in return.
"Well he didn't give me a sneer like the others did, so I'll count that as him liking me." Regulus snorted, but didn't disagree with him. The boy soon untangled his legs and stood up, stretching slightly before looking back at James, who was still sitting lazily in the same position. The two just looked at each other, all unsaid words simply being spoken in their eyes. It was all they needed, for them to understand one another.
