Old Family Friend

I woke up to no Maximo beside me, he didn't leave a note or text I wondered if he was okay but I just got up and got dressed and headed to school.

at school

"hey guys has Maximo came to school?2 I said walking up to Jacob and Thalia "no I haven't seen him why whats up?" Jacob questioned me "nothing just haven't heard from him" I laughed it off "I'm sure he's fine didn't you say he has an important job?" Thalia added "yeah" I looked at her "well maybe they called him or something to come do some work and he had to go in a hurry" she shrugged and tried to make me feel better "I suppose so" I smiled "anyways guys I've got a biology test see you at lunch" Thalia walked off "I haven't heard from Leo either" he looked at me

"why didn't you say?" I looked at him weirdly "because Thalia was there and she doesn't know what there job is" he rolled his eyes "so there's something up" sighed "do have any hints?" he questioned me "Maximo's dead sister isn't so dead" I looked at him and sighed and he looked at me with confusion "he has a sister?" he questioned "really long story but it's most likely her" I shrugged and walked to class with Jacob

The whole of class I was thinking about Maximo and if he was okay I had texted him about 20 times surely he could reply just to say he's okay that's all I'm asking from him he knows I'm a worrier. "Farah can you answer the question?" Miss Smith said pointing at the board "urm" I froze and then the kid next to me whispered the answer "oh it's 20" I smiled awkwardly "mhm you got lucky" she went back to teaching and I said "thank you for that" to the kid next to me "no problem" he replied and turned around

I got up looked at my phone while walking out of class to see if Maximo had texted back he didn't and I sighed and then I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around "hey" it was the kid from class "hey?" I questioned him with a look "oh sorry I'm Alfie" he smiled "Farah" I smiled back "oh I know I heard the teacher say your name" he laughed so I laughed with him "so what's up?" I asked him "my dad urm knew your dad they we're best friends in NYC" he said quietly and I was in shock at what he said

"what's your dad's name?" I looked at him "Alfred Monte.. I'm Alfred Junior but get called Alfie clearly" he laughed "oh my god I didn't know he had a son" I laughed "we moved not many people knew about me after that" he sighed "I've just came back" he added on Alfie was tall and brunette with beautiful blues eyes and a defined jaw line but he seemed so sweet looking than most 17 year old boys "what made you come back?" I asked nicely "my mom got cancer and my dad wanted her to be around her family she passed" he looked down "oh Alfie I'm so sorry the world is a cruel place" I said trying to comfort him "it is" he smiled slightly "my dad told me your brother is going to be a dad"? he questioned and laughed

"oh god don't start with that" I laughed with him "nothing wrong with being a teen dad" he smirked "bet you would say that huh" I rolled my eyes and laughed "so where do you have to be now?" he looked at me "well Gym but I'm already late" I looked at my phone "I have maths" he sighed "never been good at that shit" he added "neither it's so pointless just going to make sure I pass so I don't have to do it at collage" I sighed "what collage you going to?" he looked at me "believe it or not NYC" I laughed "oh for real I got in to NYC last week I'm going to see it this weekend" he said happily "that's so amazing well done" I smiled "well done to you to, I really thought I wouldn't get into collage didn't even know if I wanted to go" he rolled his eyes "I feel that but I want to be a lawyer so I'm going to push through it" I laughed "I want to study medicine" he added

"oh really? my best friend wants to do the same but he's going to Yale" I smiled while I started walking to Gym "Yale? what is he Einstein" he laughed "you'd think" I replied "anyways I'll talk to you later I've really got to get to class" I added on "same nice finally meeting you" he said and walk away, as I walked to gym I finally got a text from Maximo and it simply said "I'm away" like who even just says that but I was grateful for a text back I know he's a busy man but it still hurts in a way

the day flown by and I got my mom to pick me up from school

I got into the car and my mom said "hey baby how was school" "interesting I met Alfred Monte Junior" I looked at her "what" she laughed awkwardly at what I said "yep" I turned away "I had no idea he was still in new York" she started driving "his mom died... cancer" I said with a sigh "what I have no idea she was even Ill she was such a lovely woman" my mom wiped a tear "I don't think any one knew that family went a-wall" I looked at her "last time I seen Alfred was when he came to your father's funeral" she looked down "and now he's back burying his own wife" I almost cried for Alfie because I know that feeling of never seeing your parent again "this world takes the wrong people's life's" my mom added "oh I know" I looked out the car window as my mom drove us home
