"Let me in!" I snarled at the guard standing in the way to my mate.
"I'm very sorry, Alpha Damian, but I'm under strict orders to not allow anyone access to the room." His voice trembled as I narrowed my gaze at his insolence.
"I'm telling you for the last time, pup. Let me in now!" I bared my teeth at him.
I was this close to my mate, and this low life pack member was standing in my way thinking he could tell me what I can and cannot do. Ridiculous. A noise coming from inside the room had me pushing this stupid guard out of my way. I burst inside to find the window wide open and a male on the couch with a chain shackled around his ankle, clutching the side of his neck. What the fuck happened in here?
Marching over to the open window, I looked out and spotted a figure entering a door that seemed to lead back into the pack house again. Damn it! I turned and eyed the other end of the chain lying on the ground. They fucking chained my mate to this useless male! My wolf snarled at both guards. I could snap them like twigs under my foot, but lucky for them, Winx cleared his throat to snap me out of my vengeance.
"Winx, we need to find her! She's in the pack house somewhere," I ordered.
Both Winx and I took off from the room and were joined by the annoying guard that was still on his feet as we walked down to the main hall.
"Where is she heading?" I growled at the pathetic guard.
"She usually heads for the woods, Alpha. I'll show you to the main entrance." The guard ran to catch up with us as we made our way down to the ground floor.
It took all my willpower to keep me from shifting and chasing after her, but I was a stranger here. She had the edge over me when it came to this labyrinth of a pack house. My mate knew every hiding spot, could exploit passages ten times faster than I ever could, so I needed to be smart about this. I would yell at her later for recklessly jumping out of her window, but as for now, I had to find her before Perry could sink his claws back in again. He could take her from me.
As we quickly descended the stairs and walked to the main hall, the guard glanced down to the front entrance of the pack house and then led us towards what looked like a sitting area outside Perry's office. My ears twitched at a slight squeak coming from near the entrance, and when I turned back, I saw a small figure coming out from a side room.
"Hey!" the guard called.
The figure didn't turn round but, instead, quickened their pace.
"Pack member! It's past curfew! You should be in your pack's quarters," the guard called out and was met once again with silence.
He made his way up to the figure and grabbed their shoulder, causing their hood to fall and reveal red wavy locks that fell to the centre of her back.
"It's her." My wolf leapt to attention. "Mate," he roared.
She glared at him as his face contorted from confusion to absolute anger.
"You!" I heard the guard growl.
She ripped her shoulder out of his grasp and took off like a bullet fired from a gun towards the front doors.
"Get back here!" Winx shouted to her, but she had already opened the front doors and slipped into the night.
It was cold out in the night air when I managed to catch sight of her sprinting towards the city. I left Winx behind as well as the struggling guard to try and catch her. That was the plan, but as soon as we made it into the city, she ducked behind buildings, jumped iron fences, and raced around back streets like it was child's play to her. Not to mention the speed and fluidity of her movements. I was an alpha, and even I found it difficult to keep up with such a pace.
