Our relationship continued at a steady pace. I put the collar on him when he was in the mood, and I didn't hit him again.

And then, we got news of Polnareff's death. They found his body in the Coliseum in Italy and in what state his corpse was. He was out there alone at a huge disadvantage.

Jotaro and I were in his office standing in front of a SPW who gave us the terrible news.

I covered my mouth with a gasp. That was Jotaro's friend! I remembered him giving Jotaro a tight hug before going their separate ways.

I turned seeing Jotaro leaning back against his desk.

He swallowed. He struggled, "Um... Thank you for the news. You can leave."

The worker glanced at me concerned and nodded. He left.

Jotaro closed his eyes and inhaled and exhaled. He walked around his desk and sat down.

"Jotaro?" I called.

He picked up a pen and said, "You can go too."

"Hun," I called. "We just got news of Polnareff's death. There is no way you could focus right now."

"I'll see you at home," he said without acknowledging my statement.

"Jo-."

"Just," he interrupted with one word. "Just... Go..." That last word was filled with anger.

"Okay," I said. I placed my hand over his on the table. "I'll see you later, hun." I left.

He needed some time. Getting news of a friend's death was never an easy thing. No matter how many times it happened.

I arrived home, but Jotaro wasn't home. I texted him asking where he was. I started cooking dinner for us.

By the time I was done, he still wasn't home and he didn't respond to my text.

I called his cell phone.

He didn't pick up.

I tried my best not to get worried, but this was too hard of a task when I got no response for hours. I put the food into containers so I could leave.

Jotaro probably was still at work. When stressed, he could be a workaholic.

Just as I opened the front door, Jotaro was in front of me just about to enter. I stopped and gasped.

He muttered, "Oh, hey."

My teeth barred as pity, anger and annoyance swirled through me. "Jotaro, why didn't you respond to me?"

"Oh, um," he avoided looking at me. "Sorry."

"Jotaro, I was freaking worried about you!"

"Sorry," he said. "I should've texted you."

I took a deep breath and said. "It's okay. Come in and eat. I doubt you ate much today." I calmed down knowing that he was home now.

Without another word, he came in.

We settled at the table and ate. We didn't talk.

When Jotaro was done, he sat at the table. He looked down at his empty plate. He put his hand to his face shifting his hat. His face was covered, but his shoulders were clearly shaking.

I placed my hand on his shoulder. "I'm so sorry."

"Hm," he mumbled. He sniffed.

That was one of his close friends that was last alive. This was beyond hard on him.
