It had been a week since we heard of Polnareff's demise. I walked into Jotaro's office, finding him looking at a paper. On the back of it, I saw that it had Jolyne's name scribbled on the back of it.
He sat it down and said, "What do you need?"
I could see that the paper was a bit worn. On it was a drawing of three stick figures with a house. One of the figures had a hat. Another was a bit smaller had green and black hair. The other had blond hair. It was a drawing of his family.
"This is for you." I handed him a stack of paper.
He nodded a thanks. He studied the paper.
"So..." I sat down on the chair in front of his desk. "Whatcha looking at?"
He looked at me. "Just..." He finished his sentence by looking away. He looked back at me.
"Why not tell me about her?" I said.
He sighed and placed the papers to the side. "Jolyne... she should be 11 now."
"What else about her?"
"She love butterflies, and her favorite color is green."
"Really?" I wanted him to continue. It wasn't often he would talk about his daughter.
"She's a smart girl," he said.
"I bet she got it from her father," I replied.
He exhaled a little laugh.
A silence fell between us. I asked, "You miss your daughter, don't you?"
He looked down. Yeah, he did. "I just... it's dangerous."
"I know," he nodded. "What do you want to do?"
"Keep her safe." His hands that were still holding on to the papers I gave him wrinkled the paper as he balled his hands. "She... I cherish her with all my heart. I don't want her living a terrible life because of me."
I nodded with sympathy. "Want to talk to her on the phone?"
He started hesitantly, "Even I'm not sure that is safe."
"Oh." There were even some things I didn't know. I knew he had some enemies that came from Dio and was involved with the arrow. There was some who was trying to obtain his knowledge of "achieving heaven". I had no idea what that means, but he told me that it was even dangerous to know such a thing. Even though we were in a relationship, I had little idea what he was going through.
Only a little.
I reached over and placed a hand over his balled up fist. "Is there anything I could do for you?"
He thought for a while for an answer, "Just stay here."
"Okay, anything else? Wanna get some fresh air. Eat something?"
"No," he said with his voice quiet. "I just need you here."
"Okay," I said, resolved. "I'll stay."
And that's what I did as he quietly worked. I sat on the chair without saying a word. Yes, he could've waited until after work, but he didn't want to. He needed me now, and I was okay with that.
After a while, there was a knock on the door.
"Come on," Jotaro called.
A worker came in. He started, "Mr. Kujo, I uh-." He saw me, then he looked back at Jotaro awkwardly. "Did I interrupt something?"
It was common knowledge by now that Jotaro and I were an item, but no one spoke on it directly... as far as I knew. Jotaro and I didn't talk to others about our relationship. So people weren't surprised we were together after we came from South America, while some thought we were already in a relationship before then. I could tell others were a bit more careful around me as to not upset Jotaro in any way.
"Nothing at all," Jotaro replied. "What is it?"
He walked to the desk and stood beside me. He gave us some news about work stuff.
When he was done, Jotaro said, "Alright. Thank you for the information." He gave him some instructions.
"Okay," he said, just before walking towards the door.
When he reached the door, Jotaro called him.
"Yes?"
Jotaro instructed, "Can you order us something from across the street to eat. Anything's fine."
"Anything nutritious," I piped up. I glared at Jotaro. "Not just anything."
Jotaro sighed, "Fine. Anything nutritious."
The worker glanced between the both of us. Then he nodded, "Yes."
"Thank you," I called.
He nodded at me and left.
And we were alone once again. It was comfortable.
Jotaro slipped off his coat and put it on the chair behind him. He took his hat off and sat it to the side. He placed his elbows down on the table and rested his chin on his hands. He sighed and closed his eyes.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," he said. "Give me some time."
I watched him as he sat there was his eyes closed. He sounded tired, so maybe he was resting his eyes. Maybe he was trying to get his thoughts together.
It was maybe 5 minutes when he finally opened his eyes. He glanced at me. Then he sat back in his chair.
I got up from my seat and got behind him. I gently placed my hands on his shoulders and began massaging them.
Jotaro moaned at the feeling.
A little stress relieving is what he needed.
He rolled his shoulders back and lifted his head to look at me.
"How's that?"
He said, "It feels great."
I continued for a bit, then I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around his shoulder into a hug. I rested my head on his chin.
Jotaro reached up and interlocked his fingers with mine.
There was a knock at the door.
Jotaro exhaled heavily and said, "Come in."
The worker came in with two bags of food. When he saw us, he stopped, "Am I interrupting something?"
I stood straight up and said, "No and thanks for the food." I pulled my hand from his, so I could go to the worker.
When he handed me the bags, we had a quick exchange. He asked, "Is he okay?"
I nodded, "Yeah. Just give him some time."
The worker walked out, closing the door behind him.
I turned back to Jotaro and said, "Let's eat!"
Jotaro and I sat at his desk eating.
I said, "Why don't you tell me more about Jolyne?"
"Well..." He began on a spiel on things about Jolyne. It was like he knew so much about her to like he was in her life. With every thing he told me, he a happy nostalgic look grew on his face.
"Jolyne sounds like a lovely girl," I said. "She's going to grow into a strong young woman."
Jotaro nodded, "Yeah."
