AMELIA'S POV
I wake up from a peaceful sleep and the first thing that I see is my girlfriend, I smile and kiss her on the forehead, she smiles and slowly opens her eyes
"Good morning"
"Good morning gorgeous" I cup her cheek
Y/n smiles and kisses me, a few seconds later I pull away and get up from the bed
"What do you want for breakfast?"
As she's about to reply, her pager goes off and she looks at it
"Crap"
She gets up and quickly gets dressed
"Something wrong?"
"My patient's appendix has burst"
Y/n comes towards me and pecks me on the lips
"I love you, I'll see you at the hospital"
I watch her leave and soon hear the front door being opened and closed. I go take a shower, get dressed and go downstairs
After having breakfast, I grab my things and leave the house, I get in the car and start the drive towards the hospital
I stop at a red light and send a quick text to my girlfriend, two minutes later the light turns green and I press my foot on the accelerator
From the corner of my eye I see a car coming at full speed but before I can hit the brakes the other car crashes into mine and everything goes black
Y/N'S POV
I finish scrubbing out and dry my hands with a towel, I go to the attendings lounge and make myself some coffee, my pager goes off and I look at it
Meredith Grey, ER
I finish my coffee and make my way to the pit, when I arrive I walk towards Meredith and I notice that she's biting her lip
She seems nervous
"Hey, where's the patient?" I ask
"There's no patient"
"What do you mean? Why did you page me then?"
"Y/n..." the general surgeon places her hands on my shoulders
"Mer...you're scaring me...what's going on?"
"There's been an accident...a drunken driver passed with a red light at full speed and hit another car"
My heart starts beating faster and I start shaking
"Mer..."
"Amelia was the person in the car that got hit by the drunken driver"
Tears start sliding down my cheeks and my legs give out, Meredith wraps her arms around my waist and holds me against her body for support while I sob into her chest
"W-where is she?"
"Trauma room 2"
I pull away from my friend and I walk towards the room where they're treating my girlfriend
"How is she?!"
I catch a glimpse of Amelia's unconscious body and I let out a gasp, her face is covered in cuts and it looks like her left arm is broken
"Y/n, you can't be here" I hear Owen say
"How is she?" I repeat
"She's fine, the airbag prevented her from hitting her head but Koracick will be here shortly to take her up to CT just to be sure. Thankfully there aren't internal injuries, Maggie checked her and said that there's nothing to worry about regarding her heart. She just has a few cuts and bruises and a broken arm"
I nod, walk past the trauma surgeon and grab Amelia's right hand. I kiss the back of her hand as a few more tears start sliding down my cheeks
"I'm so glad you're okay" I say in a low voice
In that moment I see my girlfriend's eyelids moving and a few seconds later she opens her beautiful blue eyes
"Hey" I show her a small smile
"What happened?"
"You were in a car accident"
Koracick arrives five minutes later and takes Amelia up to CT, I sit down and take a deep breath
"You alright?" Owen places an hand on my shoulder
"Y-yeah"
Tears start sliding down my face once again and I let out a sob
"Come here"
The man pulls me into his arms and holds me, I lay my head on his shoulder and close my eyes

I smile when I see Amelia opening her eyes and gently squeeze her hand
Callie enters the room and tells her that she'll have to keep the cast on for a few weeks, after she leaves I feel my girlfriend's eyes on me so I look at her
"Can I have a kiss?" she asks
I playfully roll my eyes and get up from the chair, I place my lips on hers and pull away a few seconds later
"How are you feeling?"
"I'm a little tired" she says
"Get some sleep"
I kiss her on the cheek and watch as she closes her eyes and falls asleep, I leave her room and go to the attendings lounge
"Hey, how's Amelia?" Maggie asks me
"She woke up and Callie told her about the fact that she'll have to keep the cast on for a few weeks, after that she fell asleep again"
I sit on the couch and run my fingers through my hair, the cardiothoracic surgeon sits next to me and wraps an arm around my shoulder
"How are you?"
"I'm fine"
Maggie kisses me on the forehead and holds me close to her

*Two days later*
I open the door and take off my shoes
"Do you want something to eat?" I ask my girlfriend
"Can you make some pasta?"
I nod and peck her on the lips
"Sit down and relax, I'll call you when lunch is ready"
We eat lunch and then decide to watch a movie, I start tracing lines on the back of Amelia's hand
"Hey"
I look up and she scans my face
"Are you alright? What are you thinking about?"
"I was thinking about the other day...when Meredith told me that you were in an accident...for a moment I thought I had lost you forever"
A tear slides down my cheek and Amelia wipes it away with her thumb
"Don't cry baby...I'm here, I'm fine"
I nod and kiss her, a few seconds later I pull away and caress her cheek
"I love you so much" I say
"I love you too"
We go to our bedroom and lay down on the bed, instantly falling asleep
