TW: mention of self-harm and scars

Y/N'S POV

I arrive in the ER and go check on a patient

A few minutes later I hear Amelia's voice so I turn my head and see her talking to a woman

"I need a different doctor. She...she cannot touch my mother. I WANT ANOTHER DOCTOR" I hear the woman say

I furrow my eyebrows and go see what's going on

"What's the problem here?" Owen asks

"She cannot touch my mother. She's a drug addict, I can't have her operate on my parents"

"Hold it. Doctor Shepherd is our-"

"Is a junkie! I met her in narcotics anonymous, she's hooked on oxy, she overdosed with her boyfriend and woke up with him dead in bed with her"

I clench my fists as I listen to this woman talk, Owen takes her outside and I notice that everyone is looking at Amelia

I walk towards her and place my hand on her shoulder

"Amy, are you okay?"

She doesn't say anything and walks away, I look at Derek and he shakes his head

He walks towards the patient and I follow him

"Let's take her up to CT" I say

"Y/n what are you doing?"

"I'm taking over this case"

"Y/n-"

"Derek, I'm taking this case and that's final"

"Miss Miller"

The woman stands up and looks at me

"Your mom's surgery went well, they're taking her to the ICU. It will take her some time to recover but she will be alright" I say

"Thank you! Thank you so much!"

The woman wraps her arms around me and hugs me, a few seconds later she pulls away and smiles

"Thank you for saving my mother" she says

She grabs her purse and starts walking away

"You know..."

The woman turns around and looks at me

"You should never judge others because of their past" I say

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about you demanding another doctor because you thought that doctor Shepherd wasn't capable of doing her job simply because of her past"

"I had to! She is a drug addict, I couldn't trust her to operate on my mother!"

"Then I guess you wouldn't have trusted me either if you knew about my past...well, you kinda know about it" I say

"What-"

"We go to the same meetings"

The woman furrows her eyebrows and looks at me confused

"Self-harm"

"T-that can't be...I never see you"

"That's because I always sit in the back"

I walk towards Sarah and stand in front of her

"People can change and get better, their past doesn't define them"

I turn around and walk away
