Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny had to catch the Hogwarts Express on
September first at eleven o'clock. Just like every year at Hogwarts. Mrs. Weasley woke them all early in the morning so they could get to Kings Cross on time.Usually there were many people rushing around collecting items they had forgotten to pack and dragging their trunks down the stairs. But as there were only four people going to Hogwarts this year, there wasn't as much noise and movement. Harry
and Ron came into the kitchen dragging their trunks behind them.Mrs. Weasley was sitting at the table putting jam on the toast that was piled in front of her. "Here you are, dear," Mrs. Weasley said smiling, handing Harry a piece of toast.
"Thanks, Mrs. Weasley," Harry said, taking the piece she offered him. Ron
grabbed a piece for himself and shoved it into his mouth."Thanks, Mum," Ron mumbled through a mouthful of toast and jam.
"You're welcome, you two," Mrs. Weasley said. "Now go help your father pack the car, Ron."
Mr. Weasley had borrowed a ministry car so all of them could get to Kings Cross. He was loading Hermione's trunk into the back of the car when Harry and Ron had gotten outside. Hermione was standing next to it holding Crookshanks as he clawed at
her arms, struggling to get away. Ron went over to his father and helped him lift the trunk into the car and one final push made it slide into the stretched trunk of the car.Once the car was all packed up with the trunks. Everyone climbed into the car and off they went. George had decided to come along to see them off. Harry was sitting next to him. George was staring out of the window as sunlight streamed through. The car ride was much more cheerful than the rest of the summer had been. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny were talking about how excited they were to be back at school. Mrs. Weasley kept giving them last minute reminders while Mr. Weasley chuckled to himself from the driver's seat.
They had soon arrived with fifteen minutes left to get onto platform 9 ¾ without any of the muggle noticing. They all found trollies and Hermione and Ginny hurried through the barrier between nine and ten. Within a flash they were gone. Harry and Ron stepped forward. They knew what to do and took off jogging toward the barrier. It looked as though they were going to smash right into it. But the crash didn't come and Harry felt himself move smoothly through, what looked like, a solid brick wall.
The platform was buzzing with noise as other Hogwarts students bustled around meeting up with friends and saying goodbye to their families. Harry and Ron found Hermione and hurried over to her. Ginny was waiting beside her with Arnold the Pygmy Puff on her shoulder. A few minutes later Mr. and Mrs. Weasley came hurrying up to them with George bringing up the rear.
"Hurry onto the train," Mrs. Weasley said, hugging them all goodbye with teary eyes. "I'll miss all of you. Have a good term."
"I'll see you, Harry," Mr. Weasley smiled, clasping Harry's hand.
"'Bye, you lot," George said, forcing a smile and looking wistfully at the train.
Harry and the others hurried off to find a compartment, waving a last goodbye over their shoulders. Once they were in the train they walked down the corridor trying to find somewhere to sit. There weren't any empty compartments, but they did find Neville and Luna sitting by themselves.
"Hello, Neville," Harry said, grinning down at his friends and opening the door. "Hello, Luna."
"Hi, Harry!" Luna said, dreamily. Her wand was tucked behind her ear and her spectaspecs were sitting on top of her head. Luna's favorite radish earrings were swinging from her ears as she turned to greet Harry.
All the others pulled their trunks up onto the rack and sat down to catch up on how their summer was. Harry felt as though everything was becoming normal again. Of course, nothing was ever normal at Hogwarts. But sitting there, as they all ate cauldron cakes and pumpkin pasties, was nothing better than Harry could have asked for as they made their way to Hogwarts.
