A few weeks after the incident with Malfoy, Harry was sitting in the library finishing his homework when he heard voices. Pansy and Blaise were both in the row behind Harry talking to someone.

“Please, Dray!” Pansy cried. “You have to eat something!”

“Pansy, leave me alone,” Draco muttered.

Harry got up from his chair and peeked behind the row of books. Draco was slumped over a table and he looked terrible. His hair wasn’t sleek and shiny like it usually was. It was untidy and Draco had big bags under his eyes as though he hadn’t slept for weeks.

“Dray, you need to eat something, please!” Pansy looked like she was close to tears as she watched Draco.

“I don’t want to eat anything.”

“Pansy, maybe we should just let him be,” Blaise mumbled, tentatively, putting his hand on Pansy’s shoulder.

“Blaise, we can’t just let him starve himself,” Pansy said.

Draco turned his head to look at his two friends. “Will you two shut up?” Draco grumbled.

Pansy ignored this. “Draco, this is so stupid! Don’t starve yourself just because of Potter!”

Draco raised his head off of his arms. “It’s not just because of Potter, Pansy,” he yelled. “I have other things to worry about other than what Potter thinks of me.”

“Like what, Dray,” Pansy asked. “All you’ve told us about is what happened with you and Potter. Is there something else you need to tell us?”

“No,” Draco said, quickly. “Just leave me alone.”

“Not until you eat something,” Pansy said. “If you don’t eat anything you’ll get sick and—and…”

Draco seemed to know what Pansy was about to say. “Well, maybe I want to die!” he yelled and Pansy burst into tears.

She ran past Harry and Blaise followed her. Neither of them noticed that Harry was standing there listening to their conversation.

But Harry was winded; as though someone had just punched him in the stomach. Harry never wanted Draco to hurt himself because of him.

Then Harry heard a chair scrape the floor and suddenly Draco was walking past him. He glanced at Harry and he realized that Draco looked even worse up close.

Draco stared at Harry for a few moments, looking scared, and then hurried off in the other direction.
