Harry was standing in the hallway alone during one of his free periods
wondering what he could do with his spare time. Hermione had Arithmancy and Harry hadn’t made up with Ron yet. He missed Ron but the way he had treated Hermione
wasn’t something Harry could forgive too quickly.Harry decided that he better do some of his homework but as he started heading for the library he found Malfoy blocking his path.
“Move out of the way, Malfoy,” Harry said, glaring at him and folding his arms. “I’m trying to go to the library.”
Malfoy hesitated before saying, “Uh—can I walk with you then, Potter?"
Harry was taken aback but he agreed. They made their way to the library in silence, avoiding each other's gaze.
Then after walking in silence for a while Malfoy finally spoke. “I-I’m sorry, Potter. For yelling at you the other day.”
Harry was shocked. He looked up at Malfoy who was determinedly looking straight ahead. “Er—thanks, Malfoy,” Harry said.
Malfoy didn’t reply. He just stopped walking, spun around, and went off in the opposite direction, his fists clenched. Harry watched him leave and found himself smiling.
The next day, Harry was, again, alone in the corridor. He was walking to his next class alone as Hermione was still taking some different courses. While Harry strolled down the corridor he heard a commotion which made him stop short. Then he ran forward as fast as he could and what he saw was made him stop in his tracks.
Ron and Malfoy were both standing in the corridor with their wands pointing at each other’s chests. Ron sent a spell at Malfoy who went flying backward and hit the floor with a soft thud.
Harry ran forward. “Ron! What are you doing?”
Ron didn’t react as Harry ran over to Malfoy. There was blood on his face from the force that he hit the floor. Harry picked Malfoy up off the floor not saying anything to Ron.
Harry took Malfoy to the hospital wing, which was difficult as Malfoy was unconscious and all of his weight was on Harry’s back. Once Harry had arrived he set Malfoy down on a chair, looking around for Madam Pomfrey. She wasn’t there however.
Harry tried to knock on her office door but she wasn’t there either. So Harry cleaned the blood off Malfoy’s face and covered his cut with some bandages.
As Harry was putting the bandages on, Malfoy woke up. “Potter! What are you doing?”
Harry jumped back in surprise. “Er—Ron knocked you out. You had a cut. So…” He held up the bandages to show Malfoy.
Malfoy sat up and felt his face. Then he looked up at Harry with a bewildered look on his face. “Well…thanks, Potter.”
They sat there for a few moments in silence. Then, Malfoy stood up and walked out of the hospital wing without saying another word to Harry.
