Harry continued to hang out with Malfoy and some days he seemed to spend more time with him than with Ron and Hermione. Harry spent most of his Christmas break with Malfoy which made Harry feel guilty. But Hermione didn’t seem to care. Ron
refused to talk to Harry while he was with Malfoy so Ron wasn’t much of a problem either.

Harry hadn’t mentioned the article to anyone since the day he had read it with Ron and Hermione. But it didn’t matter. Most of the school had read it and they whispered about him in the corridors and shot him furtive looks as he passed.

The whispers and odd looks aren't just about the article however. Everyone knew how Harry and Malfoy had been enemies for years and to see them walking down the corridor together gave everyone a new subject for conversation. This was awkward for Malfoy just as much as it was for Harry.

Even though Malfoy enjoyed the time he spent with Harry he also seemed much more distant. Harry was the same. He didn't want to mention the Daily Prophet article to Malfoy. Harry knew that it wouldn’t be something Malfoy wanted to discuss. But Harry also wanted to ask him about it.

One day when Harry and Malfoy were walking to class, Harry stopped walking and turned to face Malfoy. Malfoy stopped walking too.

“Did…did you see the Daily Prophet article?” Harry asked, tentatively.

“What Daily Prophet article? The Daily Prophet publishes a lot of articles,” Malfoy said. But Harry knew that Malfoy knew what article he was talking about.

“The one they published last week,” Harry said. “The one about the Death Eat—”

“Yes, Yes, I know,” Malfoy said, quickly.

“You…you aren’t going to join them, are you?” Harry asked. He felt as though he might have offended Malfoy but he didn’t give Harry that look at all.

“Of course not,” Malfoy sighed. “Why would I?”

Harry knew that that would have been Malfoy’s answer but he was shocked all the same. But what Harry did next was even more shocking for both of them. Harry hugged Malfoy and Harry wasn’t even aware of what he was doing until his arms were wrapped around Malfoy's stomach. Malfoy just stood on the spot blushing profusely and staring straight ahead.

“Um…Potter,” Malfoy muttered. “You’re—You’re a bit close.”

Harry looked up and backed away quickly, also blushing.

“S—sorry.”

They then stood in the corridor, not knowing what to say to each other and looking embarrassed.

Then Malfoy hurried off in the opposite direction looking down at the ground, his face glowing red.
