Harry woke up in the hospital wing about an hour later. As he opened his eyes he saw Malfoy standing over him looking worried.

“Why am I in the hospital wing?” Harry asked, rubbing his head and forgetting for a split second that he was angry at Malfoy.

“I—I brought you up here,” Malfoy muttered, tentatively. “Madam Pomfrey insists on keeping you here for the night.”

“It was only a stunning spell,” Harry grumbled. Then as he looked up at Malfoy he remembered what had happened to get him in the hospital wing. “Why are you here?”

Malfoy hesitated, not catching Harry’s eye. “I wanted to make sure you were alright…”

“Why?”

“Because I care about you, Harry,” Malfoy shouted. His face wasn’t red but a pink tinge had colored it as he spoke.

Harry could feel his face grow hot. But he resisted the urge to give into Malfoy and said, “No, you don’t.”

Malfoy didn’t say anything. He stood beside Harry’s bed looking down at his feet. But Harry continued to speak.

“I trusted you,” Harry said, quietly. “I believed you when you said that you
wouldn’t help the Death Eaters. But I was wrong to trust you.”

Malfoy’s eyes were shining in the candle light from the lamp on Harry’s bedside table. He stared down at Harry, rooted to the spot. Harry nor Malfoy said anything.

The silence stretched between them as the candle burned down low. Harry wanted Malfoy to leave but he didn’t want to be alone with the thought of how Malfoy had looked terrified when Harry had caught him in that room.

But Harry didn’t need to ask Malfoy to leave. Madam Pomfrey came bustling out of her office yelling at Malfoy. “It's nearly nine o’clock, what are you still doing here? Get out! This boy needs his rest.”

Malfoy looked like he wanted to argue with Madam Pomfrey as he stared at Harry over her shoulder. But he turned around and walked out of the hospital wing not looking back or saying another word, tears in his eyes.
