"It was me, you fuckers!"

Screaming at the top of your lungs made your throat burn, but it was all worth it. You had to protect her. It wasn't her fault. That's what you believed. She only assisted Gyeongsu's death. He's a fool. He would have died anyway, right? No, that wasn't it. The moment you fell in love with Nayeon, was the moment you lost all reason.

"I saw her wipe the tissue on the zombie's blood."

Namra pointed at Nayeon. She could feel your sharp gaze from across the room, your eyes narrowed in a threatening way.

"I said it was me!"

As crazy as you looked and sounded, you had to protect her. All the while, hunched near the door, Nayeon was confused. The two of you had hardly talked, let alone stood up for each other. She had always hated the way you cared for your best friends. She was just lonely. But little did she know that you were the one wishing to be friends with her. To love her.

Everyone kept dead silent, as if trying to work out in their minds why the hell you were protecting her. Only a fool in love would defend a murderer. Nayeon stood in the corner, gasping. Was she dreaming? Nobody had ever defended her before, even if it was true she had killed Gyeongsu.

"No it wasn't".

Namra shook her head in disgust.

"It was Nayeon. I saw her."

The next thing Namra knew was that she was pushed up against the wall, a hand gripping her collar.

"Don't you say that again, you bitch! How could you accuse her?! Your own classmate."

"You're the one defending a killer."

Nayeon couldn't take any of this as the two of you fought and argued, and with the pressure of the other student's harsh gazes, it was impossible for her to not break down in tears.

"Fine! I'll just go. I did it, okay?"

The room went silent. Before there was an uproar and Cheongsan roughly shoved Nayeon to the ground.

"Fuck, you son of a bitch!"

SLAP.

"Don't you ever touch her!"

"She killed Gyeongsu! Who's next? Why are you-"

Nayeon screamed.

"Shut up! Please...I'll just go..."

The girl was full on sobbing now. And she didn't know if it was out of pity for herself or guilt for what she had done. And she still couldn't figure out why you had protected her.

"Thank you, Sun-hee..."

One moment she was by your side, and the next, she was bolting down the hallways outside the classroom, vulnerable and exposed.

"Nayeon!"

A deafening scream came from your lungs and you rushed hurriedly to the girl you loved. All you could think was that you needed to save her. She didn't deserve this. As quick as you were, you weren't fast enough. You were only able to push Nayeon out of the way as one of the infected grabbed onto you and sunk its teeth into your flesh. She watched in horror as you yelled out in pain. Not from being bitten, but from the fact that you had to say goodbye. She couldn't stop crying. It all hit her at once; why you defended her. The days where you'd stick close to her. How even now, you never abandoned her. She was loved. But it was too late.

"Sun-hee?"

She sobbed, scrambling backwards.

"Run, Nayeon! Run! Listen, you have to live, okay? Please. Please, go!"

As she violently shook her head, you managed to kick the zombie off of you and hug her for the first and very last time.

"Sun-hee..you..."

"I've always loved you, Nayeon. You do the stupidest of things sometimes but...I understand. I love you. I don't want you to change a thing, okay?"

She nodded. Nayeon started trembling and crying. Upon hearing more zombies, you shoved her into another room, locking the door. Once she realised what was happening, all she could do was watch in agony as the infected crawled all over you, taking chunks out of your body. It was too late. She had finally found someone who loved her for her. It was you, Sun-hee And she lost you before she could even love you. And as she stared into your bloodshot eyes, all she saw was wasted love.

She realised it was far too late.
