suhyeok didn't even realize you had taken a picture of him until you set another film on your desk. upon raising your gaze from the developing polaroid, you're greeted with something adorable: his pout. in fact, he looks so cute, you impulsively press the shutter button again.

"hey, stop wasting your film on me!" he complains, rosy lips now curved into a frown. his words don't take you by surprise; your best friend's confidence in his looks has been severely lacking for a while now.

nevertheless, you shake your head and retort, "it's not a waste when i'm saving masterpieces in a picture."

and there you go again; flustering suhyeok with your smooth words. he shouldn't be assuming that you reciprocate his feelings, but when you say things like that, hope grows a little more within him. well, it tries to bloom—its owner constantly decides that it's best to squash it.

the two of you are surrounded by silence after that. while you decide to answer the english homework due for next week, suhyeok lies on your bed and takes a nap—or so you think. it's clear that you're wrong when a click stirs your focus, inevitably taking your attention away from your assignment.

you slowly turn in the direction of your bed and catch the culprit in the act: your camera sits next to him and a freshly printed film is within his grasp. what makes him even more obvious is the fact that he's looking at you with a wide smile on his countenance. and that's how you know he doesn't regret it, not yet.

"lee suhyeok." it's unexpected, the leap you take at him. even then, the boy in question manages to keep the suddenly precious item out of your reach. "give it to me!"

his shoulders shake from his overflowing laughter. "no, it's mine!"

the two of you engage in the (one-sided) tussle for a few more minutes before you decide to admit defeat. you sit next to him and rest your head on his shoulder, a little tuckered out from trying to get the polaroid. when suhyeok sees this, only then does he pull out the item and place it in front of your peripheral views.

the longer you stare at the subject of the film, the more you find yourself confused. you don't look beautiful—which is a total lie—nor are you doing anything special. so of course, you ask, "why do you want to hold onto it so badly?"

you look up at your best friend, accidentally meeting his gaze in the middle. he hastily darts his attention to the polaroid, and fondness simmers in his mocha-tinted hues. if you can use words to bury yourself deeper in his heart, he can try to do the same.

"because you look the prettiest when there's no filter."
