𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐅 𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐃I one shots

You had just moved to South Korea because both of your parents had gotten new jobs. They taught English as a language to foreign students back in your home country and were headhunted to actually teach the language to Korean students and so you packed everything you had to leave for the new country. Your parents had encouraged you to learn other languages since you were a child, Korean being one of them and so you weren't too worried about communication. You moved into a tiny two bedroom apartment which was a far cry from your three bedroom house with a garden back home.

You were getting ready for your first day at Hyosan High School. As you were leaving your apartment you bumped into somebody, a guy who donned a school tie much like yours. He barely glanced at you and walked on without so much as an apology. You ignored it and walked to your new school. Your teacher introduced you to the class when a boy barged in. As the teacher was giving off to him for being late again, you recognised him as the boy who bumped into you earlier that morning. You couldn't believe that your next door neighbour was also in your class. As you sat down near the front, other students whispered hello's and welcome's making you feel slightly better about the fact you were the newbie. For the first few weeks you had ignored Gwi-nam, quickly learning that he was part of a group of students who liked to bully the vulnerable. You decided it was best to stay away from him altogether.

That was until your History teacher paired you two together for a project. You knew that he would make you do all the work and then take credit for it and so you had set some ground rules. "You better not think that I am doing all the work just for you to turn up on presentation day and get an A+ for minimum effort", you scowled. He turned his head to you, "I thought you liked doing all the work, besides if you do it yourself then you're guaranteed an A+" and quietly chuckled. You raised your eyebrows in disbelief, "Absolutely not! We are doing this project together. So, do you want to come to mine after school so that we can get a head start?". He gives her a smirk and tells you he will be there. For some reason that smirk made you blush and you hoped he couldn't see it.

You both work on the project every Tuesday and Thursday for the next three weeks and over time you start to actually enjoy each other's company. Gwi-nam even comes over one weekend to watch the latest comedy on Netflix. One night during your research session, you gather the courage to ask him why he is friends with Myeong-hwan and the others because he is so nice and even funny when he is alone with you. He stares at you for a moment and says, "No one touches me because they fear me. Imagine what they would do if they weren't scared of me". You're about to ask him why he wants to be feared when you are interrupted by your mum's arrival so you just leave it.

The weekend before your presentation is due, you decide to sit in the hallway of your apartment complex. You're going over your notes when you hear shouting and then a slap. Your neighbour's door bursts open with Gwi-nam stumbling out and his father slapping his head calling him 'stupid' and 'worthless'. His father walks back into the apartment and slams the door shut leaving Gwi-nam visibly trembling and his head hanging low. You realise in that moment what he had meant by needing people to fear him. He was scared of his own father in his home, he didn't want to feel scared in school so he put on a persona of a bully.You walk over slowly to gently grab him by the hand. You tell him to wait a moment as you go into your apartment to collect your bag. "Follow me", you command and without a word you walk side by side. You bring him to an ice cream parlour and tell him to order whatever he wants, you're paying.You sit by the window in silence and enjoy your dessert. When you both finish, he quietly mumbles a thank you. You both don't mention what happened and before he walks back into his apartment you give him a hug,"If it happens again, please knock on my door". You watch him walk into his apartment and can't help but feel sorry for him, maybe if he was shown some love he would not be the way he is.

On Monday, you both deliver your presentation and your teacher gives you an 'A'. Gwi-nam tells you that it is his first 'A' in any subject ever and he thanks you for it. You feel saddened by the fact that this project is over, now you don't have an excuse to hang out with him anymore. Each day after that you would both share glances and small smiles when you walked past each other in the school corridors. People started to notice that Gwi-nam wasn't torturing people as much and they felt they could relax a bit more in school now.

One day in the cafeteria, you hear Myeong-hwan shouting at Gwi-nam, telling him he was useless and asking why he was disobeying his orders. You could feel your blood boil being reminded of how Gwi-nam's dad treated him, you felt like you needed to protect him. Before Myeong-hwan can slap Gwi-nam's head, you catch his arm, "I suggest you stop acting like you're superior to everyone when we all know you are the useless one here. Do not touch him when you are the biggest piece of shit in this school!". By the end you were raising your voice making everyone's heads turn to see the commotion. You let go of Myeong-hwan's arm and take Gwi-nam's hand to drag him out of there. You bring him round to the back of the gymnasium where there is a secret hangout and let out a frustrated growl, pacing back and forth to calm down. Gwi-nam just stares at you in awe at how you defended him in front of the school's biggest bully. When you see him staring, you stop pacing and ask him "What?". He smirks and says,"You defending me like that...it was hot". You stare at him in disbelief and wonder if you can kiss him right now or would that ruin your friendship. You take a deep breath and gently push him against the wall. You kiss him and he kisses you back.When you break apart he says, "I like having a bodyguard of my own. Will you be mine?". You giggle at his attempt to flirt, "that was pretty cheesy, you know?". He rolls his eyes, leaning down to kiss you again
