Camden's POV:
----The map of this place was way too confusing for me. And so far I already had to glare at two guys who were eyeing my ass in this skirt. I sighed as I finally made my way back to the correct building. You know how embarrassing it was walking around a completely different one trying to find my dorm? I hope to God no one realized I was lost.
I had already felt regret when I stepped into the airport back at home, but now it was really sinking in as I carried my last bag up to my dorm room. I missed my parents, and I missed my friends. I forced the tears that dotted my eyes to stay back. There was no way I was letting myself cry in front of anyone.
Just when I thought they'd spill over, my phone vibrated in my hand. I turned it on to see a text from one of my best friends.
River ❤️: Good luck today babes! Don't be afraid to make friends!
I smiled when reading the text from River, quickly typing back a thank you as I climbed up the stairs. I looked up from my phone when hearing crying from one of the rooms in the hall. I didn't know if they were crying for the same reasons I was about to burst into tears over, but it still made me feel less alone.
I walked to the dorm at the end of the hall to see the door cracked open, and I knew I had shut it before I left. I took a deep breath and nudged it fully open, finding a girl who I assumed was my dorm mate setting up a mannequin in her corner of the room.
I tried to be quiet as I walked in and set my bag down on my bed, but she immediately turned to me with a smile on her face.
"Oh my, aren't you just the cutest thing?" She cooed and walked over, studying me closely. "My name is Angeria, but you can call me Angie. What's yours?"
Oh my God that accent. I tried my best not to stare at the seemingly perfect girl in front of me. "I'm Camden. It's nice to meet you." I gave her a small smile as I unpacked my tea from my bag.
She watched me closely, and I would've been uncomfortable if she didn't seem so friendly. "You've got such a cute accent, Camden. I guess my prayers for a better roommate worked."
I blushed over her compliment. Maybe by the end of today I could tell River I had actually made a friend. "Yours is nice too." I said, almost unable to take my eyes off of her.
Angie smiled and went over to finish setting up her mannequin. She pulled out a bundle of fabric, rolling it up and placing it in one of her bins. "I can't wait to introduce you to my friends. They all know my luck with roommates sucks. I've been through three. One dropped out mid semester, the one that replaced her got kicked out, and the last one was such a bitch."
Well I guess I'll be meeting more than one person today. "I'm sorry about that." I responded, setting my box of tea bags down on my desk.
Angie looked over, tilting her head as she watched. "You bring your own tea? The dining hall has some."
"American tea isn't as good." I told her before moving on to make my bed. "So I brought my own."
Angie nodded and smiled a little, opening up a box and lifting out a sewing machine. "Understandable. What are you studying?"
"Performing arts." I responded, confused over the weird feeling in my chest. I pushed it away, smoothing out my blanket. "I've done ballet for years and it kinda got me into that. But I couldn't get into any of the schools back at home..."
Angie frowned as she rolled up some more fabric. "Their loss then. I'm sure you're amazing. But our performing arts program is really good here. Some amazing dancers and actors have come out of it."
I couldn't help but smile. Something about Angie was so charming. Probably the accent, combined with her seemingly endless nice words. That feeling just wouldn't go away and I couldn't tell if I was just relieved and excited to be making friends or if I was feeling a certain way towards this girl. I decided it had to be the first option. I had never had feelings towards a girl before and I doubt it'd start now just because someone was nice to me.
"That makes me feel a little better." I said and sat cross legged on my bed, squeezing a squishmallow in my arms. "I'd ask what you study, but I think I can guess." I giggled softly.
Angie smiled, taking a sketch book out of her bag. "Fashion design." She said and handed it to me. "I've always sorta had an eye for it since I was a kid. I make and design most of my outfits."
I flipped through the pages of the sketch book to see a ton of different designs, each one unique. Angie watched over my shoulder, trying to study me without me noticing. "I can always make you something when I've got the time. I've made a few outfits for my friends before."
"Really? I'd like that." I admitted shyly. I hoped that meant I was a friend now.
"Of course. I'll take your measurements as soon as I unpack everything and then you can choose a pattern you like." She winked as she went back to her stuff, and my cheeks went red.
The door opened and a smaller girl stepped inside, holding a plate in her hands. She had messy hair that had been dyed purple and wore a small smile on her face. "Angie? I brought snacks." She held the plate up.
Angie turned to her, putting a hand over her chest. "Aw Willow, you're such a sweetie." She said as she took one of the cookies. "You didn't have to do that."
"But I wanted to. I had to bring them now before Kerri took them all." Willow smiled before she looked over at me, holding the plate out. "Hi new friend. Do you want one?"
I couldn't just say no to that offer. I took one of the cookies from the plate, smiling down at her. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Willow put the plate down on Angie's desk and made herself comfortable on her chair as if it was her own. She turned to me, hands folded in her lap. "I'm Willow. What's your name?"
"I'm Camden." I introduced myself to her, watching in amusement as she started spinning herself in Angie's chair.
"Careful Willow." Angie put a hand on the back of the chair to slow her spinning down. "Remember what happened last time you did that?"
Willow was quiet before giving her a sweet smile. "I fell and spilled coffee everywhere."
"Exactly." Angie laughed, letting go of the chair and grabbing another cookie. She looked back at me, and I tried my best not to blush under her gaze. "Willow here studies animation. She's done some pretty cool stuff."
Willow looked proud, swinging her legs instead of spinning. "Yep. Me and our friend Maddy both do. She has to help me concentrate on it a lot but I'm still good at it. What do you study?"
"Performing arts." I told her, motioning towards different outfits I still had to go through and put away. I was about to continue until Willow got excited.
"Ooo, I just noticed your accent!" She beamed, looking up at Angie. "Remember when you said you're into girls with-"
Angie quickly put a hand over Willow's mouth, her eyes wide. "I do not remember saying anything like that to you."
I tried not to laugh, playing with my hair in an effort to hide my blush. There was a loud bang and then a groan in the hallway.
Angie sighed in relief and stood Willow up from the chair. "Orion sounds like she needs help." She took another cookie before handing the plate to her. "How about you go help her?"
Willow gave her a sly smile and giggled, skipping to the door. "I think I will. See you later." She waved to both of us before disappearing back into the hallway.
Angie shook her head, laying back on her bed. "Just pretend you didn't hear a word she said just now."
I smiled and nodded, leaning back on my pile of squishmallows. "I'll try to do just that."
Angie pulled herself together and turned her phone on to check the time. "It's getting later and I'm hungry. You wanna go to the food court with me?"
Of course I wanted to go with her. I nodded, fixing my hair and smoothing out my skirt. "That would be nice."
