This was a request from @SamLattuceAstrid1 :)
I think this is takes place between season 2 and 3, like after Garmadon turns good or whatever. I haven't seen the show in a while so I'm taking some creative liberties here lol
Hope u enjoy!
Lloyd's POV
It was sometime past dawn, and the warming rays from the sun were just starting to appear. I would normally still be asleep at this hour, but instead, I was outside, practicing my roundhouse kick against a tree.
"What are you doing out here so early, son?"
It took me a moment to realize it wasn't the tree who was talking.
"Oh, uh... couldn't sleep, I guess."
"Rest is important in order to perform well throughout the day."
"Yes, I'm aware."
I went back to kicking the tree.
"Is everything alright, Lloyd?"
"Fine."
"You don't seem fine."
"I'm fine, Sensei. Just a bit busy at the moment."
"You can call me Dad, you know. We're not in the dojo."
I froze. I've always felt weird about calling him that, especially after everything that happened. I mean, I knew it wasn't his fault he turned evil or whatnot, but this dude was absent my whole childhood. I barely knew him at all.
"I have an idea," Garmadon said suddenly. "Come with me."
"Now? But I'm in the middle of--"
"Your opponent isn't going anywhere," he chuckled.
I rolled my eyes. "Okay, okay. I'm coming."
I didn't bother asking where we were going; I didn't want to be disappointed. We walked through the woods, mostly in silence, for ten minutes, until we reached the outskirts of a town. I followed Garmadon into the first shop on the left. I glanced up at the sign.
"You brought me all the way out here for tea?"
"Your uncle says tea makes everything better."
"We have tea back at the monastery!"
Not this kind of tea," he smirked.
He ordered something for each of us, and instead of it coming in a small cup, I was handed a glass filled with a bright pink liquid.
"What the heck is this?"
"Iced tea," Garmadon explained. "I thought you'd like the dragon fruit flavour."
I took a cautious sip. It was delicious.
"Wow, okay, I'll admit it. This is pretty good."
"Told you so."
As we enjoyed our drinks, it wasn't as hard as I thought to keep up a conversation with him. He told me stories about when he was evil, and most of them were pretty funny in hindsight. I laughed a lot more than I expected to.
"So, wait--you're telling me you entered a juggling contest?" I said, interrupting him mid-sentence.
"Yup."
"You. Lord Garmadon. King of Shadows. Entered a juggling contest."
"Not just entered. I won the damn thing."
Tea squirted out of my nose.
"Well, don't sound so surprised! I did have four arms after all!"
"That's cheating!"
"There's nothing in the rulebook against four arms!"
I laughed, then finished the rest of my dragonfruit drink. We said goodbye to the owner as we left the teashop, but we didn't get far back into the forest before I began to feel uneasy, like someone was watching us.
"Do you hear that?" I asked.
My father stopped to listen.
"Well, well, well," a new voice said. "If it isn't the Green Ninja."
A group of thugs emerged from a line of trees. They all had some kind of weapon--many had knives, but the largest was swinging a club back and forth.
"What do you want?" I asked, resisting the urge to yawn. The wasn't the first time this happened--apparently some people weren't too happy with the defeat of the Overlord. That monster had grown quite popular with local gangs.
"It's not about what we want, it's about what you deserve."
And with that, he charged at me, the club outstretched. He was too close for me to get out of the way, so he landed a blow to my ribs and sent me flying into a tree.
"F*ck, that hurts," I muttered, trying to get back up.
He started to walk towards me, but my father stepped between us.
"Don't you ever lay another finger on my son."
"What'cha gonna do about it, old man?"
The "old man" hit his fist against his palm, then punched the thug with more force than I had ever seen him use. Unlike all those lessons in the monastery about the Art of the Silent Fist, he became aggressive, terrifying, and protective all at once.
My father had the man pined down within seconds, and offered him a chance to run away, which he and the gang took.
"That... that was amazing!" I said. I tried to stand up, but couldn't get my legs underneath me without my ribs screaming in agony.
"Whoa, there; let me help."
He put my arm over his shoulder and hoisted me up onto my feet. He shared my weight as we walked back to the monastery.
"I thought you were against direct violence," I said.
"I am," he said. "But nobody messes with my kid."
I smiled.
"Thanks, Dad."
