I wanted to hear what Bucky had to say. If going somewhere with him was the only condition for him to tell me everything he was feeling, then I'd take it. I wasn't acting fair either, but it was only because of how he was acting. I knew I was acting was petty, but he was driving me crazy. The liquor from Tony's party didn't help either, but I still needed to understand him.
I changed into a black tank top with dark denim jeans and paired it with a maroon colored leather jacket and my combat boots. So that my jacket had a hood, I had a dark gray sweater under it. To be safe, I hid my combat knives in each boot yet again and slipped a handgun in the waistband of my jeans. For my makeup, I stuck with a more natural look with a mauve pink lip color. I shook my hair with my fingers, roughly running through them and lifting it a bit to give it some volume. Taking a deep breath, I walked out to meet with Bucky. Bucky had a black leather jacket on as well with a dark blue zip up sweater under it.
"Ready?"
I shrugged, "Ready as I'll ever be." Bucky and I went to the garage and got into a car. As he drove, I looked at him. "So, where are we going?"
"I thought it would be a good idea to get out of the tower so you can stay distracted."
"Don't you think everyone is going to kill you for letting me out of the cage without their knowledge?"
"We'll be fine," Bucky replied.
"Do you realize this is the first real conversation you've had with me since the party?"
"Yes."
"Do you understand that I'm still pissed at you?"
"Yes. Anymore questions?"
"Are you going to tell me what's been going on with you?"
Bucky paused for a moment before answering, "Yes."
"When?"
"Thirty minutes," Bucky answered.
"In that case," I muttered and turned on the radio. Bucky raised an eyebrow at me. "You know me and awkward car rides."
As I stared out of the window, I noticed that we were going to New Jersey. I was confused by what he was doing, especially since he didn't seem to care about the state either. It wasn't until we reached a familiar area that I realized where we were going. Bucky parked the car across the entrance of Branch Brook Park, the park where my mom took me to see the cherry blossoms every year.
"Why are we here?"
"Come on," Bucky said.
He put on his hat and closed the car door. He placed his hand behind my back and guided me into the park. I looked around to see the cherry blossom trees, making my heart ache from the memories that were flooding through me. The trees were just as beautiful as I remembered. The beautiful trees were shades of pink and white, some of the fallen flowers covered the ground and grass. Some of the flowers even floated along the lake.
"Why did you take me here?" I said as we walked along the sidewalk.
Bucky sighed as he walked toward the lake. I followed him until we were close to the edge of the lake. He reached up towards a tree branch right under him and plucked a cherry blossom flower out of the branch. He studied it for a moment.
"I remember more now," he muttered. "It was like you unlocked a door to my memories. I remember different ones almost every day. Every night, I have nightmares about the things I did. I remember more of my life before, more memories of Steve, some missions, pieces of our time together, and how you escaped."
I bit the inside of my cheeks, looking away from him. "Tell me."
Bucky continued to look beyond the lake. His eyes were distant as he thought about that day. "We weren't just partners. We had this soft spot for each other. We never acted on it, but we couldn't deny that there was something between us."
