"You're fae," Rhysand chocked out.
They were all looking at her. Gaping at the golden girl.
Azriel felt so many emotions crashing into him, he could not process them.
When he felt her leave the manor, he felt nothing but pure fear. Fear for Celaena. And when he saw her again, relief spread all across his body. Such relief to see her standing there unharmed. Such relief that all he could think of was to kiss her just to confirm that she was real, that she was alive. Such relief that he hadn't noticed her pointed ears or the flames in her hands.
And now, looking at her, how had they ever mistaken her for human?
Azriel stared at her, breathing in her glory, and prayed that it was not true. Because if it was, it meant that she had lied to them, spied on them. It meant she was the enemy.
It meant that his mate was his enemy.
"Yes," She breathed, stiffing her fire, her sword vanishing. "I never said I wasn't."
It was difficult to breathe. Difficult to form thoughts.
"You're part of the autumn court," It was not a question. Rhysand was looking at her like he was a moment's breath away from ending her.
"No,"
Betrayal. The Shadowsinger was being crushed by feelings of betrayal. It hurt. It really, deeply hurt. So painful that he was a second too late to stop Rhysand from winnowing in front of Celaena, his magic threatening to tear her apart.
"Your fire- you were a spy-" They suddenly disappeared into the cocoon of darkness.
Panic surged through Azriel. If Rhysand did anything to her-
The cocoon moved around, and light shone around Celaena, and casted Rhys and his darkness away from her.
"Watch it," She warned, her eyes burning bright.
"An enemy in my own home-" The High lord was seething, his purple eyes inexplicably bright.
"Why are you so surprised? You knew that from the beginning."
Before the words left her mouth, Rhysand was an inch away from her, darkness at his fists.
"You attacked my city, I won't let you live-"
"I had nothing to do with the attack-"
The girl wasn't able to finish her sentence before Rhysand held her by her throat with his magic.
Inexplicable rage filled Azriel. He was going to kill him-
But he did not need to. Because Celaena acted too quickly, even for Rhysand.
Without even moving a muscle, the girl commanded her fire and sent a ball of fire right at his head. The male dodged a second too late and a lock of his hair was singed. "I warned you," Celaena breathed.
Rhys' eyes lacked the warmth that had been there whenever he looked at Celaena. All there was left was anger. Despite her skills, Azriel was worried that his High Lord would indeed kill his mate. With that thought, he was jerked out of his magical paralysis and winnowed in front of his brother.
"Calm down," There was an edge in his voice. "Think rationally,"
The look Rhysand gave him- "Rationally? You should take your own advice. Her damn court is responsible for this!"
"I did not lie about that. I am not part of any court-" His mate said, and Azriel desperately tried to find the deceit in her words.
"No, she is not part of any court. Because she is not from this world at all," Amren interrupted, finally appearing. Despite her small frame, Amren had never looked so grand. Short hair flying, fierce eyes shining, she looked at Celaena. "Isn't that right, Aelin Ashryver Galathyniun?"
