Another male entered. This one was taller, with brighter red hair, and amber eyes. Though these features differentiated them apart, it was clear that they were brothers. And that they did not like each other. That was especially true just by glancing at how they looked at each other. Eyes that were moments ago glaring at her in disgust were now locked on amber ones. Amber eyes that were full of mocking and mirth.
It was easy enough to profile each of them.
Despite the piss-poor staring match, Aelin was glad for the newcomer's arrival. One more second with the first one and she would have filleted him like a fish.
"Eris," The first one said, the grip on her jaw tightening. "I was-"
"No need to explain it to me, brother." He was casual as he advanced toward them. "I can see clearly enough." He frowned as he eyed where his brother's hands were. "Though I dare say that father will be quite displeased if he saw this."
"I haven't done anything for him to be displeased with." Despite his words, he released Aelin instantly, but the hard look in his eyes did not disperse.
"Whatever you say, brother." Eris responded indifferently as he crossed his arms. He looked at his brother in ridicule as he cocked his head to the side expectedly.
His brother straightened and gathered his remaining dignity and effectively left the room without another glance at either of them, slamming the door close as he did.
Finally, Eris rested his eyes on Aelin. "Hmm,"
She allowed him to do so, all while making sure her mask was intact.
Eris, she realized, was someone to watch, to be cautious of. Aelin recognized the predatory trait in which he watched, in which he spoke. It was evident with the way he handled his brother. He was the type to assert dominance in a sneaky, conniving, cunning way. And from what she learned about Beron, Eris took after his father.
"What is this? Where am I?" Aelin allowed herself to shrink. "How did I get here?"
"You're home, in the Autumn Court."
"Autumn Court?" Aelin remembered how her role was to be played, recalling exactly as Rhysand had told her. "What's that?"
Eris didn't respond as his lips pursed. There was distrust and disbelief in his eyes. "Rest, you'll be collected for dinner."
Feigning at confusion but submission, Aelin rested back against the pillows, eyes following Eris as he walked towards the door. As he did, the assassin felt his gaze too, burning into her skull.
