The High Lord crooked a finger towards Keir, who in turn advanced to the throne. Before he could make it to the pair, Rhysand's magic took it from him. Aelin realized immediately that the sitting male was simply demonstrating his power. That he was sitting on a throne, and that Keir was-and will always be below him.

Rhysand, who had regained his composure, looked at the chalice for a second before locking eyes with Keir.

"Should I test it for poison?"

That too had a purpose, to distract.

Cassian's waiting. Go.

"No, milord," Keir groveled. "I would never dare harm you."

Aelin got off Rhysand and walked down. She knew that every soul in the room would smell the scent that was marked all over her and Rhysand.

Just as she passed Keir, he quietly sneered, "You'll get what's coming to you, you human whore."

Unfortunately for him, not quietly enough.

Before she could react, darkness enveloped the room. Screams and shouts were here as the room was temporarily blinded in the pitch black.

Light entered the room again and Aelin saw Keir on his knees next to her.

In the unearthly silence, Aelin noticed Mor watching the spectacle joyously. Her eyes were bright and her lips lifted upwards. It seemed that the blond hated the Steward too. Actually it was apparent that their whole inner circle detested the male. Cassian was looking at him with a look Aelin usually sported right before finishing off a kill. Azriel too- who she had just noticed in the corner of the room-when had he entered the room, was looking the deadliest she had ever seen him.

But the scariest person in the room was none other than Rhysand himself. He was lounging almost carelessly on his throne. But his eyes, his eyes said otherwise. His eyes told her that he was suppressing the aching in his body to rip Keir's jugular and send Keir to the afterlife right there and then.
