Carter

Chapter 6

 Casper's pov-

About an hour after Carter kicked me out so she could take a nap the boys came home. I was sitting on the couch with my laptop. I went online and bought some clothes for Carter. I made sure they were all tailored to her size and made sure they would cover everything. I'm not sure if she's trying to hide something or if she simply prefers conservative clothing. Regardless, I want her to be comfortable.

" Where's Carter?" Carson asked, taking a seat on the couch.

I closed the computer, " Sleeping." I answered.

" We tried to get security camera footage but apparently all of the camera's are down for maintenance." Callum said, running a hand down his face. I could've told them who paid for Carter's shopping trip but I decided not to. I saw her slip her card to the cashier in all of the stores. She thought no one saw, but I did.

Caspian and Callum took seats on the couch opposite to Carson and I. Caspian leaned forwards with his elbows resting on his knees. " Something is obviously off with Carter." Callum said and the others agreed, I just sat there quietly.

" Did you see how skinny she is? That's not normal." Carson said in a concerned tone.

" Do you think they starved her? We always knew Natalie was off her rocker. That's the whole reason dad wanted a divorce." Callum pointed out.

From what I've seen and from what Carter has said it wouldn't surprise me if Natalie and Chris were abusive towards her. Natalie was never much of a mother. She wasn't physically abusive with us often but it wasn't above her to smack us around a little when she was upset with us.

Dad didn't know at first but as soon as he found out she hit us he filed for divorce. The next day Natalie took Carter and ran. I think she took Carter to spite him. She knew how much he wanted a daughter, she knew how much Carter meant to him, so she took her. She's a spiteful bitch.

" It's possible. She was always abusive towards us, it wouldn't be surprising if she was the same way towards Carter. We all knew it was a possibility." Caspian said, a grim look on his face. We all knew it was a possibility but it's not one we wanted to truly acknowledge. We had hoped that Natalie had changed, but it was unlikely.

" Natalie's husband wouldn't have let her do it though. She probably did it behind his back." Caspian said.

I'm not sure if I really agreed with that. Carter doesn't really seem affected by not only Natalie's death but also Chris's. If he was good to her she'd most likely be mourning him but she's not. Maybe it's because they had a falling out when she got pregnant. Unless Natalie married someone as awful as she was, then there's a chance he abused Carter as well.

But this is all based on assumption. We don't know any of this for sure and we won't until we get Carter to talk to us, which could take a while.

I don't want to bring up what Carter told me yet. My brother's can be a bit much when it comes to the people they love, particularly Caspian. If he truly suspects that Natalie abused Cater he'll try and force her to talk about it. Which is something I don't want her to have to go through. I believe she'll talk when she's ready.

" Maybe she just has an eating disorder. Did you ever get to look at her medical records?" Carson asked Caspian.

He shook his head, " Knox is still trying to get access to them. Someone made sure they were well protected." he said, a gleam of suspicion in his eyes.

It's only a matter of time before he unseals those files and finds out about Miles being Carter's son.
