The light.
It was a blinding light.
A light so bright and powerful that it looked like it had come from the farthest reaches of heaven. That was the gravity of Princess Zelda's power.
Within the blink of an eye, all of the dark lord Ganon's evil was eradicated. Reduced to dust and nothing. The land of Hyrule was finally purged of its ruin.
The princess was reunited with her beloved knight. The knight she'd watched scale the tops of the highest mountains and cross the most treacherous paths to be with her once again.
His response to her question, "Do you really remember me?" Had been to run into her arms and envelop her in a hug that had waited a century.
They stayed like that for a while, embracing each other in the afternoon sun; the wind blew around them and rustled the grass and wildflowers.
They relished in the fact that their tireless work was finally over. Their days of hardship were done.
However, one could only assume that there would be no more story to tell if this were true.
Deep within the depths of the earth, a little vein of malice had somehow been shielded from the great light. It hung by a thread of strength and clung feverishly to the world. It had, miraculously, survived.
Conceived within the darkest pits of hell, Ganon's malice had slowly poisoned the beautiful land of Hyrule. It tainted the water and drenched buildings and shrines. It would also harm one if it was touched. Link knew this all too well from his journey.
Somehow, a sliver of its hideousness had survived the great light Zelda had shed upon the land, and it still had its fallen lord to serve.
This is the tale about how it scoured the earth for revenge.
