No sound penetrated the bedroom, except for the shallow breathing of the princess. Something was disturbing her slumber. There was a dark aura, and she could sense it.
A snake-like creature of red matter made its way through the grass; evil pulsing through it. The thing slowly creeped onto a steep path leading up a hill.
The decrepit worm began sprouting hideous appendages as it quickened its pace.
It slithered along a winding dirt pathway and up it went along a hill, all while even more spindly limbs sprouted forth from its fluid-like body.
By the time it had reached the top, it resembled a frail and bony hand. It reached out into the night for something it sensed but could not grab. It dragged itself along the earth, guided by the light of a blue fire.
The hand reached the side of the building it had crawled to. It latched onto the stone wall and pulled itself up, inching its way towards a window like a spider.
After prying open the stubborn latch with its "fingers", it successfully scuttled through the opening it had created.
The hand tossed itself excitedly inside the room, seemingly content with its achievement.
It skidded about a paper-strewn floor to a conveniently near table. After climbing up one of the oak legs, the creature reached the top.
The wretched thing was now eye to eye with exactly what it was looking for.
Without a second to spare, it sprung onto the odd machine like a snake engulfing its prey and covered it with its fluid-like body.
Slowly, the light that emitted from the machine switched from blue to a deep red.
There was buzzing, beeping, and crackling.
Next thing the princess knew, she felt a sharp jolt startling her awake. As her groggy eyes adjusted, she realized she was lying on the floor of her room; the jolt had been from falling out of bed. A slight pain burned at her temples.
Hauling herself off the ground with a slight dizziness to her step, she grabbed a drinking glass off her nightstand and ran over to her tiny washroom. She filled the glass from a pail inside, drinking it down. The cold water stimulated her half-asleep senses.
Afterwards, she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and sat down on the floor, placing the glass down beside her and hugging her knees with shivering arms. Chills ran up and down her spine and she was covered head to toe in goosebumps. The princess began mumbling to herself.
"Malice..."
"That was malice in the lab!"
"I need to warn Purah!" She exclaimed, immediately, getting up from the floor.
Her porcelain-colored slippers laid just outside the washroom, which she speedily slipped on.
Dashing back into the main bedroom, she grabbed a blue shawl from her bag to drape over her shoulders, and quickly but quietly, left her quarters, sped down the hallway, and padded over to Link's door.
Trembling, she turned the knob and stepped inside, shutting the door behind her.
Although it was pretty dark, the powerful moonlight gave off a silver glow. From the far side of the room, she could see Link asleep in bed. His dirty blonde hair was splashed out onto his pillow, and she could hear him lightly snoring.
"Link! Wake up, it's urgent!" Zelda cried, running over to his bedside and jostling him awake.
He was very heavily asleep, so it took a few, frantic, shakes until he was finally responsive.
