Dreams breath is jumpy as he drops the phone into his lap after the person on the other end hangs up, George clinging to his arm with wide eyes awaiting an answer as to what is going on. Turning slowly with tears beginning to brim, he smiles a watery grin at the brunette beside him.
"George", he mumbles, laughing out a choked out sob, "We're about to become parents", at that he breaks completely and envelopes the shorter in a hug, squeezing him until he may break.
"Holy shit", George gasps, not being able to speak very well as his eyes are also quickly filling with tears of joy, "Right now?"
"Yes, my god, yes", Dream pulls back from the hug, looking at his lovers mocha eyes that spill slow tears.
"Well then", George laughs a little under his breath, still in disbelief, "We should go to the hospital."
"Shit", Dream seems to snap back into some sense of reality and leans to shake George's shoulders violently, "We have to go! Grab the things, I'll get the car sorted!"
At that George nods his head and draws in a deep breath, still slightly out of it from the realisation that in under a few hours he will be able to hold his daughter in his arms. To hold their daughter in his arms.
Their daughter, it's got a nice ring to it he thinks.
His legs carry him swiftly to the nursery as Dream pulls on his shoes and makes his way out to the car with some things already loaded into it in preparation. Eyes flick around the room before catching sight of what he needs, grabbing the bag with two hands he exits the room again.
It's a speed he's not used to, an anxiety of excitement that you get before a drop on a rollercoaster that is a defining moment of the ride, though this ride in question is one of his life. He knows it'll never be the same again, that he's sacrificed himself to years of crying and what some would describe as torture.
However, this is something he knows will be worth it. It'll be worth every second of the child's love and adoration, every time he finds her and Dream asleep on the couch, her snoring quietly with messy bunches slowly falling out as her head rests upon Dreams shoulder. The first time he witnesses her walk, talk, say his name for the first time, it's all going to be worth it.
Shutting the front door and locking it, he stumbles down the front steps towards the car which Dream has already started up and pulled into the road. He quickly places the bag of essentials in the footwell before nodding at his husband swiftly and they set off on the drive to the hospital, to the place where their lives are going to change forever.
A smile tugs at the brunettes lips at the thought, everything he's wanted since he knew he liked guys, since he came out to his parents, it's finally coming true.
"Excited?", Dream questions, it's short and subjective but the brunette knows it's simply because he's nervous. Childbirth is a complicated thing and with Dream being the way he is, George knows he's overthinking everything that could possibly be happening as they drive to the hospital.
"Yeah", George responds in the same short manner, words not being needed to convey his emotion as his tear brimming eyes and warm glow of his cheeks conveys more than he'll ever be able to, "You?"
"Nervous", the blonde responds quickly, "So fucking nervous".
"Hey", George hums lightly, sliding one of his hands across Dreams thighs to squeeze it slightly in a comforting manner to which the blonde smiles, "It's going to be okay, I promise, she'll be perfect."
After that remark the car falls back into silence, neither one wanting to speak as the tense excitement and nerve filled atmosphere returns once more.
The hospital is rather far away for what it's worth, twenty minutes excluding trying to park and in their case they should've allowed for an extra five minutes as Dream insisted upon parking close so that they wouldn't have to take the baby far.
Slamming the door shut, the brunette hurries towards the hospital entrance, leaving Dream to struggle by himself locking the car and grabbing a single bag. The doors are automatic, opening for him immediately once he reaches them, though they don't seem fast enough as he bounces on his toes slightly before they open.
Once inside it's full of pristine white, the walls painted white along with the tiled floor. Aspects of blue can be seen every now and then such as direction boards and stickers on the floor in the shape of arrows but that's about it.
His eyes scan the area as Dream makes it to his side, a little out of breath but overall just bouncier than usual in his anxious state. Mocha eyes land on the reception area and his feet quickly begin to carry him there, the blonde following behind like a little lost puppy who is too excited and nervous for his own good.
If he had been thinking about this situation previously, he would've seen himself as the overly anxious one and Dream as the one who would comfort him, however, it seems to be the opposite. Instead, he finds himself being the slightly calmer one asking the receptionist where to go whilst Dream bounces beside him, eyes flicking around the room.
The lady at the desk is nice, she tells them to head to room 325, a waiting room for room 320, and there should be a doctor in there waiting for them.
Thanking the lady quickly, both of them turn on their heels and speed walk faster than they've ever walked before, legs carrying them up three flights of stairs due to their impatience to wait for a lift.
"Room 325 yeah?", Dream asks breathlessly as they open the double doors to the long, winding corridor that makes up floor 3. There's brown doors on either side, each one holding numbers and the majority have blacked out windows due to this being the childbirth floor.
However, every now and then there's a room with a light window, then either not in use or being used as a waiting room. This is the same for the room they've been instructed to go to, room 325. Upon entering the room, a doctor turns around who is dressed head to toe in a white coat.
"You must be Dream and George", the man comments, a lilt of something in his voice that George can't quite pick up.
"Yeah that's us", the brunette responds, glancing at Dream momentarily before returning his gaze back to the doctor.
"Well then", the doctor comments, a smile making his way onto his face, "There's someone you'll probably be bursting to meet being nursed in the nursery right now."
"In the- right now?", George asks, mouth falling agape as his stomach fills up with something warm and fuzzy and he catches eye contact with Dream. The blondes eyes have gone wide, viridescent falling soft at the mention of their daughter already having been brought into the world.
"Yep", the doctor comments, "Delivery went very well and Louisa is recovering right now, of course you can visit her to speak to her about future arrangements but she requested for you to meet the baby first."
All George can do is nod and gulp, words failing him as the doctor motions with his hand for the couple to follow him. It's as though time has slowed and he's walking past thin air, nothing else matters in this moment except for them.
Butterflies and flowers surround his body, smothering him so that breathing is barely an option at this point, something that lost its true function once the doctor broke the news.
Though despite this he slots his hand into Dreams and squeezes tightly, the blonde not being able to do anything else except squeeze back.
