Oh and if anyone wants to draw this scene or smth bc I am not artistically talented, it would be really cool and then u could send it to my discord which is in my bio :)

Quick warning: updates might go a bit hit or miss for the next week or so due to mass exam time (perks of being in year 12)

Dream wouldn't call himself overprotective or a worrier, they're simply not words he's ever felt the need to relate to. However, when he wakes up to Adelia crying from the room next door he's quick to get up and sprint into her room at the unholy hours of four in the morning on a Tuesday.

Time doesn't matter when it comes to her, that's what he's learnt so far during his time as a parent. Upon opening her door he's met with the little brunette having a small coughing fit as she cries, her cries coming out raspy between breaths. Dream quickly makes his way over to her and lifts her out of her crib, rubbing his hands along her chest as a way to soothe her and hopefully calm the coughing.

Eventually sobs subside and all that's left are small sniffles buried into Dreams shoulder that's been wetted by tears.

"It's okay Addy", he whispers into the air, still rubbing her gently but on her back this time, "Have you got a naughty cough?", he asks her in a soft voice so not to scare her.

Of course Adelia doesn't reply, simply coughing into Dreams shoulder and beginning to cry again. Her salty tears wet Dreams shirt, the original white turning see through.

It hurts to see her upset when he can't do anything to help, it's like he's been rendered useless. His heart aches when she begins to cry louder and it's all he can do but rock her side to side in his arms in a hope she'll drift off to sleep.

The cries don't subside, simply growing louder by the minute no matter how much hushing and rocking Dream does. She coughs between sobs and the sound breaks Dreams fragile heart.

There's not much he can do except continue to hush her which is currently doing nothing. Plus, he doesn't want George to wake up, the brunette needs his sleep otherwise he's cranky of a morning. Dream on the other hand can handle running off next to no sleep, having done it all the time when he was younger.

"Addy I need you to sleep", he hushes her before leaning down to gently place her into her crib where she once lay.

Small pink lips push into a pout and emerald eyes well up with more tears as she all but screams whilst thrashing around where Dream placed her, wriggling until one of her arms breaks free from the baby sleeping bag and begins to hit up and down on the bed.

A sigh escapes Dreams lips when it settles that this is what he's going to have to deal with until her cough subsides or they can get some medicine that'll make it more bearable.

Rubbing his temples gently he looks down at the wriggling, crying baby that is Adelia. Her small, growing brunette curls have become tangled from all of her movement, almost getting caught in the sleeping bag which would've inevitably resulted in more screaming.

There's only one thing Dream can think to do and he's not even sure if it'll work. His only experience with people being upset have been his friends or sister and the ways he knows how to comfort them is to give them a hug.

However, he's already tried pulling Adelia in close to his body so that she almost can't breathe and it hasn't worked, simply resulting in more coughs and screams. But through his logic, if he goes to her instead of bringing her fragile body to him, perhaps she'll calm down.

Lifting himself up, he places one leg into Adelias crib near her feet that are wiggling side to side as she cries. Next, he places his other leg in so that his whole body is in her crib and he can kneel down at the end of the mattress.

There's not much room for movement, but he carefully manoeuvres himself so that his body lays next to Adelias, head tucked over her little one so that she's pulled close to him. His legs curl up, protecting Adelia within his grasp when he places one arm over her body and moves her closer.

Screams continue, loud now as his ear is even closer to her mouth that's producing the loud cries and coughs. However, he gently hushes her and strokes her hair softly, brushing his fingers down her face as a way to calm her down.

"Shhh", he whispers and she cries out quieter, "I know it's horrible but dadas here", he brushes his hand through her hair, "I've got you, it's okay Addy".

The brunette lets out a small cough, a raspy breath in following before a rushed breath out as her cries subside and her body begins to relax.

"It's okay", Dream hushes whilst stroking her hair still, breathing deeply in a hope that her breathing will copy his, "Close your eyes", he whispers as her eyelashes flutter open and closed.

One of his hands reaches her small one and begins to trace small circles on her little palm before allowing her to wrap a clammy hand around two of his fingers and holding tightly. Dry coughs come out into the air every now and then, breaking the silence as Dream lays next to her in her crib quietly.

"There we go", he whispers as the grip on his fingers loosens and Adelias breathing begins to even out, "Sweet Dreams Addy", he mumbles.

Forcing his eyes open, he waits for a few more minutes before detangling himself from Adelias now calm body and lifting himself out of the bed.

Grabbing a blanket from the floor and a rather large teddy, he lays himself down next to her crib and lets his head fall back. It's rather uncomfortable but he'd rather be close to Adelia and know she's okay and that he's right there than worry about her from the other room.

So in that moment as he slots his hand through a gap in the crib to wrap his hand around Adelias smaller one, he decides that maybe he should use the term overprotective to define himself. Because if not him then who is going to look out for his family, to pull both George and Adelia close and keep them safe.

His heart warms at the thought and he closes his eyes, letting himself drift off to sleep with a now calm Adelia laying right by his side and an oblivious husband in the other room.
