The next day rolls around a lot faster than expected, though that might've been because both Dream and George slept like rocks the previous night, arms slung around each other and holding them close. It wasn't every night that they cuddled, George insisting he had his own personal space, and most of the blanket might Dream add, though when they did it made it special.
Dream will never grow tired of having brunette curls beneath his nose as they spoon, allowing him to freely let himself relax into the scent of strawberry and honey, like summer. It's his favourite thing, he's his favourite thing and nothing will ever replace that. As much as he's going to love this child to pieces and she will be a very close second, George will forever and always be his number one.
"Georgie", he whispers into curls and receives a hum as a response, "Georgie it's time to wake up, we have to finish baby proofing the house."
"Ten more minutes", is all he receives before gentle snores can once again be heard. So much for them baby proofing the house together, he'll do it by himself. After all, there's no way he can wake the brunette whilst he looks so comfortable and relaxed, like he's in his own little bubble away from the rest of the world.
Sucking in a breath he gently moves his arm from beneath his sleeping husband, trying ever so carefully not to wake him up as he manoeuvres himself out of bed. Once his feet touch the floor, a hand reaches up to rub his tired eyes, sleepy dust evident from the long nights rest with his arms wrapped around his lover.
His legs carry him towards the door rather quickly, feet purposefully and skilfully missing the creaky spots on the floor. The door pulls shut with a gentle click and he makes his way down the small hallway into the kitchen where he'd previously laid out all the things deeded for baby proofing.
Despite the child not being able to move around for a while, he thought it fit to plug the outlets and ensure that doors couldn't just slam shut with little fingers trapped inside.
Sighing slightly, he picks up the pile of outlet plugs and scouts around the house, filling them in one by one until they're all complete, followed by stopping all of the doors with foam things that wrap around them and adding a small nightlight to the baby's room.
A smile makes his way onto his face after a half hour of work, admiring what he's done and letting himself fall into the sofa. It's at that point when it hits him, they haven't told any of their friends what's happening, none of them have any idea that their friends are going to become parents in a matter of days.
Needless to say, his heartbeat begins to race slightly, what if they weren't accepting? What if they thought the whole process was too fast? What if they wanted them to have a boy? So many questions begin to race through his head, all too fast for him to process at this moment in time.
"Dream?", a soft voice calls out from the doorway, breaking him from racing thoughts, "Dream are you okay? You're staring into the distance and doing that face you do when you overthink", curse him for being so observant.
"I'm okay", it's not a lie though he supposes it's better if he elaborates, "It's just, we haven't told anyone about any of this yet", he gestures into the air in hopes that George will understand what he's saying.
"Shit", is the response he gets which causes him to let out a slight wheeze as he picks up his phone.
"Although", Dream waves the phone at George, "No time like the present".
The brunette makes his way towards the couch and sits himself next to Dream, resting his head upon his husbands shoulder and wiggling his body until he's comfortable enough. The scent of vanilla fills his nostrils and he could bask in it for hours, he definitely won't be complaining if their baby daughter obtains a vanilla scent like Dreams. After all, he wants her to remind him of Dream as much as possible despite her not even being their biological child.
"So", George mumbles at Dream who is clicking at the phone to try and navigate his way to discord, "What do we even say? What I mean is, we can't just ask them if they can ring and be like hey we're adopting a child really soon sorry we didn't tell you"
Dream laughs a little at this, shooting a smile at his lover with a grin.
"Well, that's exactly what I planned on saying so if you have a better idea now would be a great time to tell me", he comments sarcastically, clicking on their discord chat with their friends and asking them all if they're available to call.
"Dream", George exclaims after the message is sent, "This is so dumb", he rolls his eyes and huffs, "Remind me why we didn't do this earlier."
"Because you were too busy being in love with the fact that we are adopting a little girl who, when she grows up, you can finally put into practice your plaiting skills", Dream retorts quickly, watching as Sapnap says he's free on the group chat.
George opens his mouth to respond but can't quite seem to find the words he needs fast enough, deciding upon closing it and just letting out a quiet huff at his loss instead of making a snarky response way too late for it to even apply.
"Look, they're all free", the blonde observes, tapping at the screen where all of their friends have responded accordingly.
"What joy", George responds, it laced in a heavy amount of sarcasm.
It's not that he doesn't want to tell his friends, in fact, he would love for them to know as they're some of the most important people in his life, excluding his parents who he also hasn't told but they can find out later. It's the fact that it's going to be such an awkward conversation and he's probably one of the most awkward people ever to walk the planet.
"Georgie", Dream sighs, catching eye contact with the brunette, "It's not going to be awkward, I promise", he places their foreheads together before quickly pecking the brunettes lips, holding the kiss momentarily before pulling away and facing the phone again.
Just as he's about to hit the call button, his phone begins to ring. At first he assumes it's someone on the group chat making the call, but within a second he realises that it's in fact a mobile call. One from a number that's saved under the name 'Delilah'.
A gasp is all that can escape his lips as he turns to face George who has a similar look of shock, the emotion washing over them both like a wave.
"Is it?", the brunette mouths, not wanting to speak in fear that it'll break the feeling that lingers in the air of unspoken tension.
With shaky fingers and laboured breathing, Dream hits answer, placing the phone to his ear whilst George quickly latches on to his left arm, both trying to hold each other is unspoken knowledge of what is about to happen.
