As it turns out setting up a crib is a little easier said than done, especially when it's being put together by two people who haven't done any DIY in their entire life.

"See I said you were sat on it", George points to the floor where Dream had previously been sat, "Next time maybe you'll listen to me", he huffs and rolls his eyes, picking up the screw that they've been looking for for the last five minutes.

"I swear you put it there", the blonde scoffs, holding up the final piece of the crib for George to screw in, "It definitely wasn't under me a minute ago".

"Yeah, just like how the instructions weren't in the wrong order and you were just reading them wrong", George quips back, screwing in the final screw to complete the crib.

"Listen, it's just not my fault", Dream playfully scoffs, "Reading isn't for everyone", his tone is light and jokey, like how it's been the whole time they've been trying to build the crib.

"It just is your fault", George retaliates, "How you managed to rearrange the whole booklet I'll never know", he pauses for a moment, stepping back to admire their work, "Holy shit", he murmures.

The crib is complete in front of him, standing in the middle of the room that's been completely emptied to make room for baby essentials. It's quite surreal, the crib actually being in the room, it means everything is become a little more like reality.

Dream remains silent, picking up and placing the small mattress into it, finishing it off by placing the giraffe toy inside it.

"Wow", he breathes, "This is-", he opens his mouth to speak but he can't quite formulate the words to express how he's feeling.

"Crazy", George finishes for him, "Surreal, amazing", he could list almost a thousand words that would describe the feeling of looking at the small crib. It standing in all its glory in the centre of the room, almost as though there's a shining light around it.

"We should- let's move it into place", the blonde stumbles over his words as his eyes remain fixated on the crib, one that a baby will soon lie in.

"Yeah", the brunette responds breathlessly, his heart fluttering uncontrollably at the thought that within a week there would be a little girl lying in the crib, their little girl.

It only took a moment but once the crib was pushed to the edge of the room, it almost looked complete. Pictures litter the walls, little stickers of giraffes and zebras above the drawers that only Dream and George will be able to admire. The changing bench is by the door, everything prepared on the shelf beneath it so that when the baby arrives it's ready to be used.

The wardrobe on the side of the room is full of hangers, each one holding a baby grow that looks too small for anything human. One side of the wardrobe holds tiny clothes, the other slightly bigger ones for as the baby grows.

Letting his eyes take in the room, Dream can't help but notice that something is missing, it doesn't quite feel right. An arm snakes around his waist, pulling him close.

"I love it", it's quiet, but in the silence of the room it seems loud enough to smash glass.

"Me too", the blonde replies, biting his lip momentarily, "somethings missing though".

"This?", the brunette responds with a lilt in his voice as if he knows exactly what Dream is talking about. Within seconds a little giraffe is pushed into his hands, forcing him to clasp around it softly. "Put it in the crib", George speaks softly, gesturing towards the wood with his hands.

Dream quickly makes his way towards the crib, placing the giraffe down in the middle of the small mattress before stepping back slightly to admire how it looks.

His heart swells at the view, a little crib all set up and perfect for their little girl, he hopes with all his heart that she loves it. Though, even more so he hopes she'll love them. The blondes heart clenched slightly at the thought, what if she doesn't love them? What if she grows up and never speaks to him? What if he's an awful dad?

He's never really thought about it too hard over this hectic week, getting so caught up in the fuss of having a child that he's forgotten what actually comes with it. All the responsibilities that are going to be thrown onto his shoulders, their shoulders, and so soon. They're going to be bringing up a little girl and teaching her the ways of the world.

If they do it wrong, well, Dream knows how that'll go down already. His mum wasn't really there for him as he was growing up, in fact, she hated him, so did his father. Though that's what was expected from a homophobic mother with a gay son, the two don't exactly match, no matter how much Dream wanted it to.

However, with the thought back to his mum, perhaps this is an opportunity for him. An opportunity where he can show the world that he truly is a good person despite everything his mum used to tell him. And then perhaps one day, he'll be able to see that when done properly, parenting is beautiful.

"You ok?", the brunette asks from beside him wearing a concerned expression at Dreams silence.

"Yeah", the blonde breathes, "Yeah I think I am", he laces his hand with the smaller, giving it a gentle squeeze as a way to say he's ready.

They stand there for a moment, absorbing the room which they've created in less than a week. It's rather beautiful for a last minute creation despite some of the drawers missing a screw or two, George blames Dream for that. However, the most perfect thing of all has to be the giraffe, simply because of where it's placed.

It sits in the center of the crib, waiting. In a way it reminds Dream of himself and George, waiting for the child so that they can love her and support her through anything she goes through. Whether their daughter suffers with something as simple as school or something as complex as a toxic relationship later in life, Dream knows he'll be there for her. After all, his mum was never there for him, so he wants to be a better dad to his daughter.

"Hey Georgie", he mumbles, glancing over at the brunette. "Hmm?", the shorter responds gently, leaning his head on Dreams shoulder.

"I think you're going to make a brilliant dad", he speaks softly, squeezing his hand tightly so that they'll never be able to let go.

And it's in that moment that they know, with all the love and anticipation in their hearts, that they're as ready as they'll ever be for their soon to be daughter.
