Cross had left earlier than he usually did, which meant something was up. However, Nightmare didn't remember Cross talking about needing to leave early. Cross always told him when he had to leave early, it was the most reliable thing about the other monster.
Nightmare couldn't think up a reason on why the other wouldn't tell him why he needed to leave. In fact, the only thing he could think about was that Cross was finally coming to his senses. That the smaller skeleton shouldn't be around such a hideous and vile creature like himself.
The gooey skeleton bit his lip, a saddening feeling erupting from inside of him. He hadn't felt this feeling in a long time. It was a sickening feeling. He hated that feeling. It was the very feeling that drove him mad in the first place.
"No... Just... Just go to him." He muttered, moving closer and closer to his Castle's doors. "He... He won't be mad..." He continued to move on, whimpering some. "Would he?"
He was now at the front gate. It was open, Cross never needed to close it. The animals around there were too afraid of him to get anywhere close. In fact, Cross was the only being stupid enough to get close to the Manor, much less to him!
Taking a shaky breath before he shyly moved out of the Manor's gate. He shook in fear. When was the last time he left the Manor? Maybe it was some short time after he was cursed? It couldn't have been too often before he stopped.
Shyly, he made his way down the path. It was a well-worn path in its own right. He was scared, what if Cross didn't want him out of there? He really hoped Cross wasn't mad at him...
It thankfully wasn't long before he had made his way to the nearby town. Tears were filling his eye at this point. His younger self would've been ashamed, appalled, at the sight of him crying so freely. Yet, Night didn't care. He wanted to know if Cross hated him...
The town oddly was dark, allowing him to drift across the grounds to the only lit place. A church like structure. It was an old structure, any forms of religious thought having been eroded away with weather and vengeance. Yet, it was the only place with light.
Quietly, Nightmare snuck in through the back, a door that would never squeal even without being used for years. He only knew about the door because the church looked like the ones in the ancient capital. They always had a secret way in and out, just in case Noble families wanted to confess in secret.
The gooey skeleton shook his head. Why was he remembering that now? Was it because he was in a familiar place? Night's thoughts soon didn't matter. A loud, enraged scream brought him back to what he was there for.
"He's not a monster!"
