Shadow of the Butterfly

Shadow made his way through the city with a slight sway in his walk to gather some speed from his shoes, he knew that Sonic had to be around here somewhere.

The fresh breeze waved past Shadow as he paced through the city, it was about now that the cities residents were making their way to work and other responsibilities. There was quite a few cars but not too crowded to slow down the traffic.

Subconsciously, Shadow started to pace slightly quicker ever so gradually. He was very aware of the people driving and passing by, and always had a feeling that they were looking at him even though he was aware that they weren't and that they were only bothered with their own affairs but he still felt an anxiety from being in a populated space which made him move faster.

After making his way around the city he noticed the chili dog stand where Sonic normally regulars at, he thought that he'd ought to ask the guy at the stand for Sonic's location as it was likely that he'd know. He was a large sized guy with a brown bushy mustache, an apron stained with grease and sauce and he had an incredibly happy, expressive demeanor.

Shadow walked up to the stand with a bit of hesitance but quickly persuaded himself to talk. "hi." shadow uttered,

"hello!" the man cheered warmly, "what does it happen to be that you need? a chili dog by any chance?"

"well, I-I know that that blue hedgehog comes here often and just wondered if you'd seen him?" shadow replied in his low pitch rough tone but trying to sound more clear and vocal.

"Oh! Ya mean Sonic? well of coarse I've seen him! he was just here a minute ago," the man said expressively with a smile, "he had just went four blocks down the road in that direction!" the man pointed exaggeratedly to the left.

"Thank you very much." Shadow replied politely.

"No worries! I like to help other people out." the man greeted happily as Shadow waved and began walking down the road.

As Shadow walked, he started to walk slower as he thought about how nice the man was. He had just been thinking about all the bad people in the world this morning yet just then he'd came across such a kind and welcoming person so willing to help out a random stranger such as Shadow as though he was a close friend. Such tenderness confused Shadow, how could such good-hearted and friendly people exist in the same world and the same places as malicious evil.

Shadow realized that he was close to where Sonic was supposed to be, he had made his way to the fourth block and looked around the corner to see the bright blue hedgehog talking in a kind, confident manner to a middle aged woman wearing a black cardigan, a flower dress, and a black bob haircut and a little girl with a pink dress and blonde flowing hair.
"I'm so glad that you've found her! Is there anyway we could pay you?" said the woman cheerfully, hugging her child.
"No worries Miss! Its my duty to help people out!" Sonic replied with a friendly grin.
"Thank you very much Mr.Sonic!" the little girl shouted while they waved and walked off in the other direction.

Shadow was just peaking around the corner behind Sonic. Shadow was thinking with a slight warm smile on his face about just how kind yet so cool Sonic was, he really was a special hedgehog.

Shadow slowly walked out from behind the corner "Long time no see 'Mr.Sonic'." Shadow bantered playfully.
"Oh hey Shadow! Nice to see ya here!" Sonic replied with a smile, they were both excited to see each other since the last mission they had. 
"So, apart from helping distressed mothers what have you been getting up to recently?" Shadow greeted.
"Quite a lot to be honest, I rented an apartment just in that building there," Sonic Pointed across the street behind Shadow, "I got nothing to do so if you want you can join me in there, maybe chill out?"
Sonic and Shadow never really hung out much apart from in serious work situations, so it was surprising to hear Sonic ask Shadow to hang out.
"Sure" Shadow accepted in a chilled manner, it was nice to be able to hang out with Sonic in a casual setting.
