Chapter 8

I woke up the next morning and I felt Newt's arm around my neck, him still asleep. I slowly got up not wanting to wake him up as we were stargazing until late last night. It was now sunrise and I sat up letting the blanket fall off of me and putting it onto Newt's chest properly so he wouldn't be cold. I watched as I saw Thomas and Minho ran into the maze together, Thomas hesitating then catching up as he got used to the pace that Minho was going. I couldn't say I didn't want to be a runner but I couldn't say I wanted to either, besides I would have to ask Alby and I don't think he would let me. I heard Newt yawn and I turned my head around to see him stretch and then yawn again. "Hello, you" He said and I smiled at him before asking "How did you sleep?" He answered me nodding his head smiling back at me until we heard Gally coming up behind us and sitting next to me saying "Hi, greenie, settling in well, I see" "Yeah, I am thanks" I said back at him while nodding my head. I heard Frypan shout out "Breakfast, everyone!" and we all turned our heads towards him and shouted "Alright, coming!" back at him. 

We all got up and walked down to the kitchens with the wonderful smell of pancakes filling our noses up and I squealed slightly "Pancakes!! I looooove pancakes" I said to the others and they all laughed at me until Newt said to me "We can see that" with his eyebrows slightly upwards but still smiling. We sat down together and waited till they passed the food down to us while Newt asked me if I remembered anything from before except that I was in another maze. "No I don't, sorry" I responded to him and he shook his head, still smiling and said "No worries, not your fault." I began feeling more comfortable and I was laughing and eating with everyone when I heard Alby call my name from behind me. I jumped slightly as he said "Will you come with me for a minute y/n?" "Sure" I responded to him and walked away with him with one last glance at my beloved pancakes. Alby took me over to a bench in the forest and placed a hand down on it indicating for me to sit down. "So, y/n" he started off "Did Newt show you the jobs yesterday?" He asked me and I replied saying "yes" trying to remember all of them. "So do you have any idea which one you would like to do?" I thought about it and the first thing that popped into my head was a runner but I pushed it down as hard as I could and I blurted out "Gardener" as it sounded like the second best to me. "Oh, that's great" Alby said "That's what Newt does, so you'll be with him quite a lot. Is that ok with you?" "Yeah, that's fine" I told him as he smiled and patted my shoulder. "Then you should get to work because I think they have started" I nodded my head and smiled as he walked off. "Off to my new job, I guess," I said out loud. "Let's go!"
