As all of us started to walk out of the wall from the portrait, we noticed Abuela, Mariano and Dolores at the dining table. They all seemed to mutter about something serious but Abuela had a smile on her face.
"What's going on?" Isabela asked.
"I don't know, I'm not Dolores." Carlos shot back.
"Thanks Sherlock." Camilo rolled his eyes as we all watched Dolores, Abuela and Marino from the corner of the stairs.
It was only a matter of time before Mariano caught a glance at us and notified Abuela and Dolores about it. Mariano whispered something to Dolores as she looked at us which eventually led to Abuela to face us.
"Oh shit, run run run." Mirabel whisper shouted as she pushed Luisa to race into her room.
"Race you." Carlos challenged Camilo.
Camilo smirked, "Bet!" He said as he tripped Carlos, making him get to the door first.
"That's cheating!" Carlos shouted as he got up before Abuela got the instinct to chase after us.
"Well that's not very nice." Mirabel said.
"Eh, he deserves it." Camilo shrugged.
"Gotta be fair cuz." Luisa said as she grabbed his shoulders and threw him back gently to where Carlos started to run.
I cracked up laughing, "Good one Luisa."
"We should just leave the both of them." Isabela shrugged emotionlessly.
"I should second that." Mirabel muttered as we all watched the two boys pushing each other for two reasons; to beat one another and make sure they don't get in trouble for eavesdropping by Abuela.
As they both reached the door, Mirabel shut the door quickly as all of us threw a board game on the ground. We all scrambled to find the right pieces and set up the cards and board.
"C'mon Carlos! You chose fucking Monopoly!?" Camilo whisper shouted at him as we heard approaching footsteps.
"It's the first board game I saw!" Carlos snapped back.
"You fucking dumbass!" Isabela said as her hands moved quickly to sort out the dollars.
"You has so many other options!" Luisa added.
"Hurry up guys! She's coming!" Mirabel whispered, peeking through a hole in her door.
"Done!" Isabela said as she put her hands up, looking proudly at the neatly stacked different colored money.
"Done!" Camilo said happily as he finally set up the cards onto the board.
"Everyone got their pieces?" Mirabel asked as she rushed to sit crisscrossed on the floor.
As Camilo picked up his piece we heard the door squeak open.
"Abuela?" I asked, pretending we didn't just go through any trouble.
"What are you guys doing?" Abuela asked confused, as she looked at us and the Monopoly board.
Mirabel forced on a smile, "We're playing Monopoly."
Abuela's face turned dull, "Yes, with Candy Land cards I see?"
Our smiles faded as we looked at the cards in the middle of the board with the big words, "Candy Land."
We all gave Camilo a glare who looked at the cards nervously.
I nervously tried to laugh it off, "You know, just trying something different."
