The Vote

I turned around to the voice and looked at..Camilo?

My father looked at him up and down, "Excuse me?"

"You heard me. Y/n is staying in the Casita." Camilo said confidently.

I stood there in shock, Camilo was standing up for me? I thought he..didn't believe in me.

"This isn't up for discussion little boy. Look, you may be y/n's little boyfriend but I'm her mother." My mother snapped, "And she will listen to me."

"Then let's take a vote?" Dolores suggested.

"Dolores? Have you been listening in our whole conversation?" Viola asked.

Dolores gave her a look, "I never meant to, I don't get to have selective hearing you know." She rolled her eyes as she looked at my parents, "Y/n did nothing wrong and you don't have any proof that she even slapped Viola in the first place. So the most fair thing to do, is a vote."

"A vote? What are we doing? Choosing a new mayor?" Viola said annoyed.

I smiled at Viola, "Why Viola? You scared you're going to lose?"

Viola looked at me up and down, disgusted. "Of course not!"

"Then you wouldn't mind us taking a vote?" Dolores asked to confirm with Viola.

As we all waited for Viola's response, Abuela stepped in.

"Y/n has saved the Encanto and the Madrigals. The least I can do is give y/n a chance to redeem herself." Abuela said as she walked out of the kitchen.

"So I guess everyone has just been listening in the conversation then?" Nic sighed.

"Well, kind of hard to miss it. Y/n and Viola in the same room? Please that's a free show right there." Andres joked.

Nic and I both gave Andres a glare as Andres's smile started to fade, "Sorry, sorry."

"Well since everyone is here, why don't we just do it now?" Abuela recommended.

I looked around the house as everyone seemed to have automatically came out from all the rooms, and immediately stopped from what they were doing. Well, I guess whenever I'm having an argument with Viola I'd have to remember that not only some people but most people and if not, EVERYONE was eavesdropping in. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if some people decided to start betting money.

After just a few minutes, everyone was downstairs with a scrap of paper. They all waited in line to pick up the pen, wrote a name and put the paper into the box as tall folders acted as dividers. Unluckily for me, Nic volunteered to count the votes but I felt a bit better when Dolores said she'd watch over Nic as he counted them, just so nothing fishy happened.

"Don't worry y/n, I voted for you. I can't imagine sleeping in my room with her next door." Isabela whispered to me as Viola whispered something to my mom.

"Thanks Isa, but it's not you who I'm worried about." I whispered back as I looked at everyone who was on the opposite side of the circle of me. If I had to guess, Viola, Nic, my mom, my dad, and Abuela were already immediate votes for Viola. The ones I were quite curious about was Luisa, Andres, Pepa, Felix, Julieta, Agustín and Antonio. Sure, maybe Luisa and I were close but Luisa is quite loyal to the people who ask her for favors. Abuela could've easily asked Luisa for her vote. And I knew Andres liked me a lot more than Viola, but he was closer to Nic than me. So, where was his priorities? For the adults, all I could do was just wonder. They were older, wiser and probably had to use their knowledge and not be biased because if there was one thing I knew about them, it was that they were fair and stood up for what was right. Technically, Antonio was not supposed to vote at all, he didn't know how the process worked, but he still put in a scrap of paper.
