"I- you know what? Actually- yeah... never mind." Carlos said as he started to walk away, his palm rubbing the back of his neck.
I furrowed my brows, "No wait. Tell me, it's okay. I won't judge." I assured.
He sighed, "Y/n..do you ever feel.." he tried to find the words.
"Feel...?" I asked, waiting for the answer.
"Have you not once liked me?" Carlos blurted.
I stood there, speechless. I definitely was not expecting that. I mean I didn't know what I was expecting or what I was supposed to expect, but it definitely was not that.
But then it got me thinking, did I really like Carlos? Or was he just like a brother to me, compared to Camilo.
"It's okay, I didn't mean to put you in a tough spot-" Carlos said apologetically.
"No. No, don't apologize Carlos. You just...you just got me thinking." I said, showing a small smile, "I..I honestly don't know how to answer that question. I'm sorry." I apologized.
Carlos put his hands on my shoulders, "Hey, it's okay. Don't feel sorry, but um- I heard what happened between you and Camilo today and if you ever need a room to stay in-" Carlos said, looking a bit nervous.
I raised an eyebrow, kind of intrigued by the effort Carlos was putting in to try and be nice to me. Like, Carlos was the sarcastic prankster, who knew this was even a side of him!
"I'm already sleeping in Mirabel's room." I interrupted rather quickly.
"Oh okay then." Carlos said as his hands quickly went back to his sides and he just nodded before walking to one of the many guest rooms across the house.
I stood there awkwardly for a few minutes before walking into Mirabel's room which she was quickly trying to clean up. There was rolls of different colored threads in the ground, some needles, some unfolded clothes, opened and closed notebooks, boring and stylish pencils, and some other unfinished projects Mirabel had been working on sewing.
Mirabel laughed embarrassedly, "Sorry for the mess. I guess I must've forgotten to clean up."
I smiled as I started to help clean up, "Don't worry about it. You should've seen my room before I came here, it was a whole junkyard. I couldn't find anything."
"That's a good description for my room right now." Mirabel widened her eyes as she folded some of her laundry and let Casita bring the basket to her.
I only laughed a little bit as I collected the pencils and put them in their pencil holders.
"Soo..." she started.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"What..did you and Carlos talk about?" Mirabel looked at me.
I looked at her, "Oh nothing." I smiled trying to brush it off, "He just needed to ask me a question."
"About what?" Mirabel looked at me at the corner of her eye.
"Uhh about plants?" I said which turned out to be a question.
Mirabel stopped moving and looked at me, it even felt like casita looked at me with the same face Mirabel was making. A confused face, one brow up and one down and a tilted face.
"Come on y/n, if you want to lie you got to do better than that." Mirabel smiled as she focused on picking up the dirty clothes.
"He was just asking me about girls." I said quickly, this time I sounded more confident and looked more believable.
