Y/N POV

// Time Skip //

It was 7:15pm. I sat in the empty diner waiting for my date anxiously. I had ordered a milkshake because why not? Maybe this was some kind of joke and he'll never show up? Or he forgot? My thoughts were running wild. Mostly because I was slightly horrified that he knew where I worked. But then again he could be just some daily customer here? But I feel like I'd remember a face like that. Just then the diner bell rang. I looked up and saw my date looking around frantically. As soon as his eyes landed on me he sighed in relief and walked over.
"I'm so sorry for being late. I had stopped to get you something and didn't realize how long it'd take." He said, sitting down across from me.
"No it's fine." I said.
He smiled nervously and slid a long white rectangular box over to me.
"An apology for asking you out so randomly." He said.
I grabbed the box, curiously. I opened it and saw 2 blood red roses that were tied together with a black silk string. I lifted them out of the box in awe.
"Thank you. They're lovely. But you didn't have to, ya know." I said, setting them back in the box and sliding it to the side.
"I'm glad you like them." The stranger said, smiling.
"Oh I uh... Never caught your name? I'm Y/N by the way." I stuttered.
"Oh... Yeah... My name. Let's just say I don't like it... I'd rather be called a nickname of some sort." He said, his happy expression turning into an upset one.
"Oh gosh... I suck at giving nicknames... Um... Lemme think." I muttered, looking around for a possible idea.
I hummed, thinking of an idea. It then came to mind.
"Ooo~ How about Ryder?" I asked, smiling.
"That works for me." He said, smirking.
"Also... How exactly did you know where I worked?" I asked, looking down at the table.
There was an awkward silence.
"Oh yeah about that. I walk past here everyday on my way to the town flower shop. I noticed you through the windows awhile back. I never really gained the courage to come in and talk to you... Like the loser I am." Ryder explained, rubbing his arm nervously.
"You're not a loser." I said.
"Ya think?" He asked.
I nodded, reassuringly.
"Hehe... Thanks." He muttered, smiling once again.
"So ugh... While I was waiting for you I ordered a shake. It's (fav flavor). If you wanna, we can share? I don't really care for the food here... Unless my co-worker, TK, is working. They can somehow make the food here taste 10x better than anyone else." I explained, sliding the shake over to Ryder.
"Oh ok. Man, you're paying on the first date... I suck at this." Ryder said before taking a sip of the shake.
I chuckled a little.
"Hey, there's always next time. Ya know." I said.
Ryder froze in place.
"N-next time? You mean you wanna see me again?" He asked, shock in his voice.
"I mean only if you wanna. I'm enjoying your company." I said.
He smiled, showing off shark-like teeth. What the hell? It's like... Peter's teeth. I shuddered a little and looked away. A few memories flashed through my head. I closed my eyes, trying to get rid of them.
"Hey, Y/N? Everything alright?" Ryder asked.
I looked up.
"Oh yeah just ugh... Brain freeze?" I tried lying.
"Mk?" He muttered.
"So ugh... Ryder. Have you had any past relationships or...?" I said, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah. 1. Way back in high-school. But it didn't last long... Sadly." He mumbled, looking down.
"Awe I'm sorry about that." I said.
"No it's fine. But what about you? Is this your first relationship or...?" Ryder asked.
"Nope. I had a boyfriend back in high-school. He... Let's just say he was a bit... Crazy. It's a long story." I explained.
"Crazy? How so?" Ryder asked, seemingly intrigued.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." I said.
"Oh come on. I bet you wouldn't make up stuff or lie to me." He said, smirking.
"Mk. So my first boyfriend was an edgy goth kid. My bully to be exact. Turns out he was only a dick to me because he liked me and just couldn't admit it. We ended up getting paired together in an assignment and I somehow got him to admit that he liked me. We then started dating. He was sweet as can be, maybe just a tad bit overprotective about things. But not too long after we started dating, people I knew began to disappear. I ended up finding out he was stalking me and made this weird ass shrine thing of me. He also was the one who killed my friend, mom, and a few other kids. Luckily he was arrested and put in prison. But yeah... Hehe." I explained, laughing nervously.
"Wow... That's... Interesting." Ryder said, looking slightly concerned.
"Told ya you wouldn't believe me." I said.
"No no. I believe you. I'm just shocked." He said.
"Yeah. I guess it's not everyday you hear that kinda stuff." I said.
"No kidding." He said.
"So... How come your relationship didn't last? If you don't mind me asking." I asked.
"Let's just say my girlfriend didn't like the things I did for her. And she left me...." Ryder explained, shrugging.
"I'm sorry about that." I said.
"No it's fine. I definitely can forgive her for it and would if she gave me another chance." Ryder said, smiling nervously.
"Have you tried talking to her recently?" I asked.
"Meh. Not really." He said.
I looked at the time. It was already 7:50pm and I had told Lucy I'd be home before 8pm.
"Oh shoot. I better get going. My roommate ain't gonna be happy if I'm late. Um... Let me give you my number." I said, grabbing a napkin and a pen out of my pocket.
I jotted my number down and slid the napkin over to Ryder.
"So... Call me sometime and we can figure out our next date?" I asked.
"Sure. Thank you also." He said, smiling.
We both stood up. I grabbed the box with the roses in them.
"Thanks as well. It was nice talking to you, Ryder." I said, smiling softly.
"See you next time." He said.
"Yup! Bye." I said, walking out of the diner.
I quickly ran to my apartment, hoping not to upset Lucy. I got there at 8:05pm and opened the door.
"Lucy, I'm home." I said.
No response. I walked to my room and when I passed Lucy's I could here moans. I just rolled my eyes and walked into my room. Should have known she'd be 'studying' tonight. I opened the box with the roses and took them out. I grabbed a small glass cup and filled it with water, setting the roses into it. I set it on my dresser and stepped back to admire my work.
"Never owned flowers before so let's see how long I can keep these babies alive." I joked to myself.
I plopped down onto my bed, yawning. Soon I drifted to sleep.
