Chapter 22: sacrifice

Rebecca opened her eyes as the sunlight poked through the curtains. An arm lazily placed on her waist as she yawned and stretched.
Even before she could try to get up the arm pulled her closer. This made her smile and as he snuggled to her back.
"Don't go." He whispered. She sighed and intertwined their fingers, "It's the only way." She muttered. Dream sighed and turned her to look at him.
Cupping her cheeks, "I don't like you going there alone." Dream admitted. Rebecca chuckled, "I can handle myself." She said.
Dream nodded, "And I don't doubt that but you can never be too sure." He whispered as he leaned his forehead on hers. Rebecca smiled and closed her eyes, "It's the only way so he doesn't have a grip on me anymore." She explained leaning away a bit.
He sighed but nodded, "Alright. But I will be waiting for you right outside." He said. Rebecca chuckled and kissed his nose making him blush, "I wouldn't expect anything less from you." she teased.
Dream gasped jokingly, "What's that supposed to mean?" he asked as he snuggled to her, his face on her neck making her smile. "It means you're so clingy." She joked.
He grumbled but pulled her closer, "You're so cute."

Rebecca walked in giving herself a mental pep talk. As she walked in the apartment she was immediately transported to the Crafter's deity room where all meetings and trials were set place.
This time it was different, much more different than what happened with her trial in 1821. This time she remembers and she will remember.
She will remember how Kristin smiled at her. She will remember how Tubbo and Ranboo frowned and Wilbur and Tommy nodded at her respectfully. She will remember how Foolish hung head low in guilt. She will remember how Technoblade nodded at her with pride. She will remember how Niki shed a tear or two. She will remember the seething look on Phil's face. And she will remember how Karl looked at her with bright eyes as he stood next to Kristin.
The goddess of death walked to her and held out her hands. Rebecca didn't hesitate to grab them making her friends' hearts break.
Kristin looked at her husband who let out a sigh end walked behind the immortal and nodded at his wife. Karl smiled at her, "You'll be free soon my friend." He said.
Rebecca smiled and nodded. From behind her Phil glared at him but Kristin sent him a look making him stop. She then looked at their sons. "I, Kristin Crafter hereby give consent in this action of giving back her freedom." She said as Wilbur and Tommy stood on both sides of her.
They placed their hands on her sleeves as their hands glowed. "I, Wilbur Crafter , the god of insanity and music act as a witness." He said sending her a smile.
Tommy sighed but obliged, "I, Tommy Crafter, the god of chaos and youth act as a witness." He said with a frown.
Rebecca sent him a small smile and Kristin hummed. "Phil..." she trailed. She turned around and looked at the man that she knew all her life.
Phil looked at her then with a different light, catching her off guard. A look of pleading being sent to her. Rebecca didn't know what to think of it. "If you do this, you won't be the same anymore." He started.
Rebecca listened, letting the man explain to see what he would say for the last time. "I know." She said. Phil sighed, "You won't be a part of us-" "I'm not a Crafter." She cut him off.
Phil's face turned heartbroken as he clenched his jaw, "You are willing to sacrifice all of this for a boy." He said.
Rebecca snickered and nodded, "I guess you could say, I do it for love." She said. He sighed and looked at Kristin, sending her a look but Kristin shook her head.
"It's her choice Phil. The same way how she chose to be our helper all those centuries ago. You can't stop her." Kristin said sadly. Phil frowned and looked back at the determined girl.
He can still remember the first time she opened her eyes, the way they looked at him. The first smile and the first words, the first time she helped a human. He can remember all of it.
His heart broke when he saw how determined she was. She was willing to sacrifice her immortality for a man she hadn't even remember a few days ago.
"Phil." Kristin said. The god hummed and offered his hands to Rebecca. She looked at him and then to his eyes. She was about to accept them when he spoke again, "If you do this..." he trailed, feigning a last warning.
Rebecca looked at him with a raised eyebrow at him. "There's no turning back." Phil said. The girl hummed and nodded, "I know."
He sighed and offered his hands again, she took a deep breath and placed her hands on his. She closed her eyes as she felt the magic between them.
"I, Philza Crafter, the god of life who had gifted the power and immortality towards the Helper of the Deities, Rebecca hereby, with the witnesses of my sons and wife take back what is mine." He said as he felt the magic in between them.
Rebecca could feel it, how the familiar warmth she had all her life leaving her. The powerful feeling, the aura that was clinging onto her leaving her completely.
"I hereby take back her powers and immortality." Phil finished as their hands glowed.
Rebecca opened her eyes to see her magic leaving herself. It made her sad and yet excited at the same time. It would be a new beginning for her. Something she had always wanted.
So as the last bit of magic left her body, Phil frowned at her. But Rebecca smiled, "Thank you." she said before looking at he rest of the Crafters.
"Thank you. All of you."
