Chapter 23: time skip

Rebecca sipped her coffee as she leaned on the doorway of their house as she watched the running that was happening in front of their yard.
She rolled her eyes as Dream picked up their eldest daughter, Lila and carried her on his shoulder as their youngest, the twins, Rosie and Thorn playfully punched and kicked their father.
"Let her go dad!" Rosie yelled as she giggled while Thorn grabbed a styrofoam sword, "Let her go dad! Don't worry Lila we'll save you!" he said as he pointed the sword at him.
Dream laughed as he turned and scooped up Rosie who giggled as he spun around with both girls on his shoulders. Thorn grunted and started running after them.
Rebecca smiled at the sight as she sipped her coffee. Dream, who didn't know that his wife was watching them finally noticed her.
He stopped running in circles and stood there as Thorn hit his leg with the toy sword. She tilted her head at him and smiled. Lila who noticed her father gawking at her mother giggled, "Dad's falling in love with mom again!" she teased making the children laugh and breaking Dream's stare.
He jokingly snickered and shook the girls making Thorn groan, "Let them down dad!" he yelled. Dream laughed and placed the girls down.
Lila helped the twins to their little wooden house that Dream made for them as he walked to Rebecca.
He smiled at her and grabbed her cup, "You know, in the stories, the dads usually save their little princesses not carry them on their shoulders." Rebecca said as she smirked at him.
Dream shrugged and pulled her by the waist, "I'm teaching Thorn. And as you saw, he's learning really well." He reasoned. This made Rebecca chuckled and wrap her arms around his neck.
He leaned his forehead on her, "Happy 4 years." He whispered. She grinned and nuzzled her nose on his, "Happy 4 years."

The small family was enjoying their lunch. Rose and Thorn were telling Lila about their new friends in their new school. Lila hummed and nodded as she ate her food, listening carefully to what her little siblings were saying.
Lila, as the oldest was always the understanding one. Dream and Rebecca raising her as best that they could. The couple had first found out about having Lila a few months after their first year together which scared and excited Rebecca.
Dream can still remember when she told him...

"You are- you are pregnant?" Dream asked in shock. Rebecca gulped and nodded looking down at her hands.
Dream watched her as she let out a breath, "The centuries I was alive, Phil told me that I could never have kids and when I first found out I was so happy but then I forgot about you. How you could feel and if you wanted-"
Dream grabbed her hands and she looked at him, "You know, I never thought about having kids or a family." He started.
His words made her frown but she immediately felt her squeeze her hands, "But that was because you were taken away from me and all I had was work and my responsibilities but now..." he trailed as he placed a hand on her, caressing it with his thumb.
"I have you again and I am beyond blessed to start a family with you."

Rosie and Thorn was not a surprise for the couple. As Lila had turned two years old the couple had decided to try to have a child again.
They were successful but what surprised them was the fact that they had twins.
At the table, Dream wiped Thorn's face as Rebecca smiled as Lila helped Rosie finish her food. The family always enjoyed having lunch with each other on Sundays, they always spent the day together.
In the four years of being together, Dream and Rebecca raised their kids to know how important family was for them. That there will always be a need for a day to just spend time with each other and this was how they lived.
Wednesdays was for either school, work or friends, Saturdays were for hobbies and Sundays were for family.
It was a normal Sunday, or so Dream and Rebecca thought. Their meal was interrupted when someone knocked on their door. Lila wiped her mouth and stood up, "I'll get it-" "NO I WILL!" Rosie and Thorn yelled as they ran to the door as the eldest child followed after them.
Dream laughed and helped Rebecca with putting away the dishes. "Oh hi!" Rosie greeted. "Who are you?" Thorn asked as Lila huffed, "Don't be rude Thorn." She scolded him.
A familiar giggle was herd, this made Dream stop and Rebecca to sigh. She wiped her hands with a towel and sent Dream a knowing look.
"How can we help you?" Lila asked politely. "I'm here to see your parents." The person asked. Rosie tilted her head, "Why?" "Because I need to." "Why?"
"uh-" "Karl." Dream's voice cut his old friend off. The kids immediately looked at their dad, "Dad-" "It's okay, you guys can help your mom with the dishes." He said cutting off Lila who was looking at her with a worried look.
Karl looked forward to see Rebecca who was watching closely. Karl sent her a smile and she nodded but sighed. She knew that this was about to happen. Every year Karl asks Dream to do his job and before the kids were still young so it didn't bother them.
"Come on guys, help me clean up please?" the mother asks and Thorn immediately ran and pulled his twin to the kitchen but Lila stayed put.
Dream sighed and placed a hand on her shoulder before crouching down to her, "It's okay. Your Uncle Karl is just here for work."he explained.
Lila looked at her mother who nodded at her. "No need to worry about anything darling." She said as she offered a hand to her.
The young girl sighed but hugged her father. She looked up at Karl who smiled at her. She narrowed her eyes at him shocking him, "Hurt my dad and I'll hurt you." she said before pulling away and grabbing her mother's hand and the two walked away.
As the two men were left alone Dream sighed, "Isn't it a bit too early for the yearly work?" he asked. Karl sighed, "It is but it's different today..."
Dream raised an eyebrow at him and Karl sighed, "BBH hasn't come back from a mission."
