it had been 8 months since calum's grandfather passed away. it had been a tragic moment for calum because he grew up with scott and he gotten so closed to him. scott had always been a great granddad to him and losing him was just really heart-breaking. because of scott's death, calum had to go back to texas to take good care of the ranch, which meant he had to be sent away from chicago once again. and sadder than that was when calum stayed in chicago for almost a year, he asked houston to be his girlfriend but then, one moment came and they had a fight, leading their 7-month relationship into a wreck and a bit of break.

flashback:

"calum, you have to stop this." houston reprimanded as she grabbed the bottle of vodka away from calum.

"give me that back!" calum yelled in his drunk voice.

"calum, vodka is not the answer to all your problems. this bottle of shit won't bring your grandfather back to life, neither will this bring your parents back to marriage! you need to get your shit altogether!" houston yelled back, getting pissed already.

"you don't understand." calum slurred as he flopped himself on the couch. "i knew it in the first place that dad never even loved mom. god! even married couples get to break up, aye?" he said, throwing his hands up in the air. "tell me, hous. are you going to do the same?" he had no idea he even let that out as a chuckle.

"what the fuck are you thinking, calum?" houston was completely pissed. she felt like wanting to pull out her hair in frustration.

"you're prob- you're probably mad at me right n-now. don't tell me you're br-breaking up with me, too?" calum managed to somehow put the words altogether besides his drunken state. "are we going to break up, too, hous?"

houston wasn't obviously thrilled anymore and calum being so pessimistic about their relation just seemed to blaze the fire even more, leading to a sudden broken vodka bottle on the floor. she completely lost her temper at this moment as she stomped on the way to hers and calum's bedroom after throwing the glass object against the wall.

"h-houston!" calum yelled in his slack tone as he tried to bring himself up from the couch.

houston was already in tears as she stuffed some of her stuffs in her bag. as soon as she zipped the bag, she trudged up to the front door, trying to wipe her tears with the back of her hands.

calum followed her, almost tripping on his own foot as he fortunately grabbed one of her hands to hold her back. he even got to step on the broken glass but he was too messed up to care.

"calum, let me go." houston ordered as she managed to open the door.

"p-please don't leave." calum began to beg.

"no, calum!" houston only turned her head at calum. "i will be away from here until you start to fix yourself. it's been a week and i'm so sick and tired ofyou being like this. it's difficult for me to keep on seeing you being so mad about the world. you need to think for yourself and by that, you also need to be alone. i also need to be alone. i'm so exhausted with all your shit. look at you! you're not the strong calum i used to know. maybe it's time we both need space." she tried holding back her tears but failed to do so. she gently removed calum's hand from hers and let out a sigh.

"houston, please. i love you." calum attempted to pull houston into a hug but she stopped him. "don't leave-"

"cal, it's for the best." houston cut him off, cupping his cheeks. she gave him a quick peck on his forehead. "i love you, too, but let's give ourselves some time." she softly said before finally stepping out of the door, almost running before calum can even hold her back once more.
