it had been two days when calum didn’t get to see houston and he got pretty worried. he wanted to know what’s going on but he never even have the guts to text her. he felt stupid. he felt stupid that how come when he first met her, he had enough courage to talk to her first, but now, texting her first was one of the things he can hardly do. he had her number and she had his, too. he kept debating to himself if he should text her or not. he had a lot of things in mind that’s stopping him.

what if she’s busy and doesn’t want to be disturbed?

what if she doesn’t want to hang out with me anymore?

what if she’s trying to avoid me?

all of those what if’s kept running back and forth in his mind. he tend to fight it off with positive thoughts though and fortunately, he was able to.

he opened his phone and began typing a short and casual text.

to: houston

hey! how are you?

he sent it. he thought it was a pretty dumb text though.

few seconds later and his phone buzzed. he felt nervous to see her reply.

from: houston

hey! i’m fine. just a little bit sick :) you ?

he didn’t know why but his heart dropped to see the word ‘sick’ in her text. he completely ignored her asking back his question and instead, he quickly typed in a worried reply.

to: houston

sick? then you’re not fine houston. can i come over?

that last question he asked though just came out from somewhere in his mind.

his phone buzzed again and he opened it with one hand while the other one was having its fingers crossed.

from: houston

ok sure :) if you want

like an adrenaline rush, he sped down the stairs, completely ignoring his grandfather who was asking if where he was going.

he grabbed anything from the fridge, specifically, a bar of chocolate, something he can give to her to make her feel better.

as soon as he made it to her (grandfather’s) house, he knocked twice before someone opened the door for him.

“uh, good afternoon. is houston around?” he politely asked though he was rocking on his heels.

“you must be calum, right?” randy asked, politely, to be fair.

“uhm, yes sir.” he answered with a nod.

“come in.” randy welcomed him as he stepped back to give him the way in. “she’s upstairs, in the room with the white door.” he said before leaving for the kitchen.

calum tried not to be impatient as he carefully walked up the stairs.

he knocked on the only white door on the floor and he heard her muttering a ‘come in’.

“hey, bud.” he called out softly.

“hey, cal.” she replied with a faint smile as she tried to get up.

he quickly went up to her and helped her get up.

they sat side by side, their backs against the wall.

“i don’t know if this would work but…” he scratched the back of his head. “…i brought you chocolate.”

she can’t help but chuckle. “you’re cute”. she blurted out, making him blush. “thank you.” she said, taking the bar of chocolate from his hand.

“so, how are you feeling? did you take meds? why are you sick?” his questions ran out of his mouth.

she just gave him a soft snicker and looked at him for a while before she scooted closer to him, laying her head on his chest. “i just feel, erm, weak.” she told him in a lighter tone then adjusted herself again until she found the comfortable spot; the crook of his neck. “but i’m okay now.” her voice grew faint than ever and that’s where he knew she was falling to sleep.

he can feel her breath tingling and he can feel his cheeks heating up again. he wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer to his body. and somewhere from the back of his throat, he let it out softly.

“i like you, houston.”
