one week had past…

calum kept walking back and forth on the living room carpet and that drove his grandfather, scott, a little dizzy and crazy.

thomas, son, what is going on?” scott asked, sighing frustratedly.

calum kind of ignored his granddad’s question as he kept doing his annoying actions.

“calum!” scott kind of raised his voice, not that he’s angry, but more like to get his attention. “you’ve been doing that for the past minutes. you even barely eaten your dinner. what’s wrong?” he interrogated, setting down his bottle of beer on the table.

calum let out a nervous chuckle as he faked a smile at his confused grandfather. “uh, nothing, pops. don’t mind me.” he sheepishly said then went upstairs to his room.

he sat on his bed and let out a sigh of disturbance. he was completely having a mixed feeling of worry and confusion. he even had been a bit distracted for many days. maybe it’s because houston haven’t talked to him for a week. maybe it’s because she haven’t gotten to hang out with him nor she even made a single reply from his texts. maybe, not maybe. it was actually more like it.

he breathed heavily as he glanced out of his window, making him see houston about to walk pass his house. like an adrenaline rush, he rushed downstairs and out in the street.

“houston!” he called out, panting.

she got stilled for a moment, dropping her almost-finished coffee crumble ice cream.

“houston, you haven’t showed up for a week.” he told her, still trying to catch his breath.

she didn’t utter a word as she tried to avoid him, sadness obvious in her eyes.

“houston.” he held her back when she tried to walk away. “houston, what’s wrong?” he asked, turning her to face him, holding her by the shoulders.

“uhm, nothing’s wrong.” she said in her shaky voice.

“obviously, there is something wrong.” he insisted.

“there’s nothing wrong, calum. now, can you please let me go?” she tried to squirm away from his grasp but that only made him hold her tighter.

“no. not until you tell me if what’s going on.” he raised his voice a little.

“there’s nothing i have to say. nothing is going on, calum. nothing.” she said in denial, her voice trembling like she was about to cry.

“there is something going on, houston.” he let out a sigh. “you didn’t show up for a week. you didn’t reply to any of my texts. and lately, you tried to avoid me. so don’t tell me that there’s nothing wrong because to what you’ve been doing, there really is, houston.” he exclaimed all of these words because he was just too frustrated and too confused of the way she had been acting.

she felt her tears forming in the corner of her eyes and she began to sob.

“houston- i- i’m sorry.” his voice lowered down, feeling bad all of a sudden.

“you don’t have to say sorry.” she said in between sobs. “it’s just that- it’s just-“ she can’t even muster up the right words to say. instead, she just continued crying.

“ssshhh…” he comforted her, pulling her into a hug. “all i need is for you to tell me, okay? now, tell me. what is going on?” he softly said, rubbing her back as she sobbed on his chest.

“calum, i-“

the sky turned darker than it was and drizzles began to fall until it grew heavy into a full rain.

“oh shit. come on, houston.” he muttered as he ran back into his house, dragging her along with him.
