minutes had passed and still, silence occupied the room, not the awkward one, neither the deafening one. just simply quiet and peaceful. only the rain falling on the ground and on the roof. only the heavy breathings and multiple sighs calum and houston let out alternately.

“so…” he trailed, breaking the silence. “now what?” he uttered, mimicking that famous line at the ending of finding nemo.

she only let out a sigh before speaking up after long minutes. “cal.” she started off, her voice was faint. “do you ever just have that feeling where you get too attached to something that you just find it hard to let go?” she asked calmly.

he looked at her, scanning her from head to toe, like the one he did when they first met. “why did you ask?”

she only shrugged. “because that’s what i’m exactly feeling right now.” she said, barely a whisper. “only that it’s not only to something.”she looked at him, meeting his gaze. “but also, to someone.” she smiled. he only gave her a confused look. “specifically, you.”

he felt a bit surprised upon what she just said. “me?” he sounded so unsure.

“yes, you, calum thomas hood.” she chuckled but not as happy as it used to be. “you’ve been a really good person, a good friend. you’re sweet and nice, and the way you cared for me, it felt different.” her chest began to feel heavy again. as for him, he can’t help but smile. “you made us a friendship i’ve never felt before.” she paused for a moment to take another deep breath. “but calum, i don’t know. i think, uhm, i think, i think i li-“ she immediately cut herself off. “never mind.”

he grew more confused and he wanted her to say more. “you think what?” he sounded more persistent.

“i told you. never mind.”

“you can’t just leave me hanging.” he almost whined. he scooted his stool closer to her and gently grabbed her by the cheeks. “what? you think what?”

she looked at him deep in the eyes and that’s the moment she just almost melted and grew sadder.

“you think what, houston?” he repeated his question, more demanding than ever. “what is it? tell me. what-“

“i like you, okay?” she almost exclaimed as she stood up. he made a few blinks and his jaw almost dropped. “i like you. i like you, calum hood. and now i am scared. i’m scared to leave houston because you are here, because i became so attached to you, because i like you, because i love you.” her eyes were filled with tears again but somehow she had a lighter feeling in her chest. it took her days, a month to be précised, to bottle up her feelings for calum. she was just too afraid that he won’t feel the same way. but she was wrong. “can i hug you? just one last time please?”

he smiled at her and nodded as he opened his welcoming arms for her.

she buried her face on his chest and she can’t help but smell his usual scent; mint and pine trees.

everything grew silent once again. in each other’s embrace, they breathed in each other’s scent. they breathed in the cool breeze, the smell of the rain on the road.

“i love houston.” she whispered, only the two of them can hear.

“yeah.” he looked at her like she’s the best thing. “i love you, too.”

she pulled away in a bit of surprise. “what?” she pardoned.

he just let out a few chuckles. “i love you, too, houston aimee beauchamp.” he said, smiling. “and i’m glad that you feel the same way.”

she cried again, this time, tears of joy. “me, too, calum. me, too.”

he didn’t waste any more time. instead, he grabbed her face to his, making his lips meet hers.

as he had to admit, he had been longing for this moment, for him to kiss her and vice versa. and now, he was completely happy and so was she.

he leaned more forward, deepening the kiss which made them end up falling on bed, him on top of her.
