houston let out a sigh of relief as she finally zipped her luggage. “there you go. done as done.” she muttered as she stood up from kneeling on the floor and she looked at calum who looked distracted at the little drizzles outside her bedroom window. she knew why he was like that though. it’s because it was her second-to-the-last-day in houston which meant she will be coming back to chicago by tomorrow. her flight will be in the morning, 10:00am to be exact, and the only day she can spend the rest of her time with him is today.

she walked up to him and sat beside him on the bed. she shoved her arms into his and wrapped them around his waist. “you look so…lost.” she trailed off.

he only met her gaze and gave her a faint smile.

“cheer up, cal.” she told him even though it wasn’t the best thing to say at the moment. she just had the same feeling as him; sad.

as for him, he tried. he tried to cheer up. he tried to be happy because he knew it was the right thing to do. he had to be happy in his last hours with her in houston, but he can’t. he just can’t. every time she would smile, it would just stung his heart. she was leaving and not sure of coming back or if so, unsure if when. he wished he can just come with her or she can stay with him, but priorities were important and one of them was college. they’re both going to finish college in a few months but they knew their burden won’t stop there. they still have to find their own jobs and earn for a living. and when all of those were settled, that’s the moment they can finally decide to have the family of their own.

to admit, both of them had the same thought, that they wished they can just get married together so everything will be alright, but at the back of their minds, they both doubted if they’ll even have the chance to meet again. maybe by the time they would, they would finally be married but not together, but with different people. that’s the scary thing in a relationship. either you break up or get married. but the thing is, they’re not even in a relationship at all. somehow, they acted like one but still, it’s different.

a few minutes of nothing but the sound of rain and their breathing, calum finally spoke up.

“remember the first time you told me you love me?” he asked as he looked at her.

“yeah. and i’ll never forget that.” she answered with a smile.

he took advantage of her light weight as he brought her up on his lap. “yeah. and it was exactly the same as this. the silence, the rain, the soothing cold.” he tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. “and i don’t know if when will this happen again. with you.” he didn’t really want to cry right in front of her but he can’t help it. he can’t help himself but shed some tears. he was just really sad. he had never loved anyone like houston.

“stop thinking about it.” she cupped his cheeks and wiped the tears by the corner of his eyes. “if it’s meant to be, then we’ll meet again. let’s just look on the positives, okay?” she tried to comfort him though she knew it won’t really work. if it can’t work for her, how much more with him?

he only nodded, pretending he agreed. “i’ll wait for you, hous. even if it takes me forever.” he assured her.
