Chapter 23: "Finding A Way Out"

Four POV

The guards returned us to our cell leaving Tris there to be tested. God, why does this always happen to her? I sit down on the small bed ignoring the gang and put my head in my hands. What am I going to do?

"She's going to be okay, Four. We will not let anything happen to her." Christina reassured me and I just let out a heavy sigh.

"Why does this always happen to her?" I say. She doesn't respond and also let out a heavy sigh.

It's been like half an hour that Tris is there and its killing me. I need to come up with some plan to escape.

"Guys, we need to escape here. We'll find a way to take Tris from then and get out from this place." I say and they all nod.

We start coming up with some plans on how to escape. Suddenly I heard a blood-curling scream coming from the testing room. Tris. Everybody has a look of fear and worry in their eyes. I get up and I slam my fist on the door.

"Tris!" I yell.

Her screams get louder and I can barely make out what she says.

"Stop...Please...Let them go..." That's all I can hear from her. What are they doing to her? I swear to God I'll kill them if they touched her.

"Four what is it? Wh-where is she?" Christina said.

"I don't know, Christina." I say and Zeke come up to me and helps me open the door but doesn't budge. The rest of the boys, Uriah and Will starts to beat the crap out of the door. I can feel tears forming in my eyes. Tris might be in trouble and I couldn't do anything to save her. I was almost giving up until I give the door a kick and it opened, Magically.

I hurriedly get out and run to the testing room. I twist the knob and I noticed it's locked. Dang. I can hear Tris' screams on the other side of the door.

"Hey!!! Open the door!" I say as I slam my fist on the door repeatedly. After a few moments, the door opened with two guards carrying a bloody beat-up Tris. Sh*t. When she sees me she starts struggling from the guards grip and runs over to me. I engulf her into a hug but then one of the guards rip her off of me.

"Let. Her. Go." I say glaring at the guard.

"T-Four!" Tris yells.

I punch the first guard square in the face and kick him in the shins. Uriah, Zeke and Will came rushing towards us. Zeke and Will starts beating the pulp out of the second guard and Uriah just stands there staring at us. When both of the guards are unconcious, I walk up to her and hold her tightly.

"It's okay, Tris. I'm here. I love you. It's okay." I say soothing her. She buries her face into my chest and sobs uncontrollably. As soon as she calms down, i asked her,

"What did they do to you, Tris?" She lets out a sob and take a deep breath.

"I-I r-resisted all of the s-serums J-Jeanine gave me a-and then s-sh-she asked me h-how I did it. I-I told her she can never c-control me and then she just ordered her g-guards to j-just beat me up until I say s-something about how I r-resist those serums." She pauses "A-and t-th-they th-threatened me that if I don't tell her sh-she'll kill one of you." She says crying and I can feel tears brimming my eyes. "They started punching me a-and cutting my skin." She shows me her arm that is full of cuts. "I-I told them to stop and that I-I will tell them i-if they let you all go." She says. By now, tears are streaming down my face.

"And t-that's when you started pounding the door." I hug her again.

"It's okay, Tris. I'm sorry I didn't come and save you soon enough. It's all over now." I say and I forgot that Zeke, Will and Uriah are there, just standing awkwardly.

We go back to the cell where the rest of the girls at.

"Oh my God, Tris!" A crying Christina pulled Tris into a hug. Tris winces in pain and I saw that Chris noticed it, too.

"God, I'm so sorry, Tris! What happened?" She said and Tris starts explaining again. After it the girls all give her a hug.

"Come on. We need to get out of here." We get out and we see Peter down the hallway. I was about to punch him when he put up his arms in surrender.

"Woah, woah there. No need to do that, Four. I can get you out of here." He says.

"What!?" Marlene said annoyed. "You just kidnapped us and now you're going to help us get out of this place?" She said.

"Why are you doing this?" Shauna asks crossing her arms.

"Let's just say Jeanine had broken a deal with me. She said that if I kidnap all of you, she'll let my family go but when I got you all there, she said she didn't get what she wanted and broke the deal. So that's why I'm helping you guys out."He explained.

"Okay. Don't even think about putting us back in cells again or you'll regret it your whole life." Zeke threatened him.

He showed us a narrow hallway with a small chute that goes to the back of the Erudite compound. We all start crawling.

"You're not coming?" Uriah said.

"No. I still need to get my family back." He says.

"For the first time in forever, I'm gonna thank you, Peter." I say and Uriah chuckles remebering that line from Frozen.

He smirks and walks back.

Tris POV

The hell just happened? Peter helped us get out of the Erudite compound? No way. I couldn't even believe he's doing this. I guess he's not that kind of bad guy after all. I think there's just something inside him that tells him to do it. Maybe there is some Abnegation in everyone. We all got out and start running for the trains. But there is only one problem. I can't run. My legs are like burning cause it's pretty beat-up. Tobias must've noticed.

"Need help?" He says sweetly.

I smile at him and say, "Yes please." Then he scoops me up in his strong muscular arms and head towards the train. The gang pulls themselves up and then Tobias brings us up, too. He sat me down in the corner and sits down beside me. I lean my head on his shoulders and let the darkness fade my world.
