POV-Emily Patterson
"This is it," Mitch said as we pulled into the driveway. The car didn't even stop before I jumped out and rushed to the front door. I waited for Mitch to join me on the stoep before I knocked on Sgt. Grant's door.
"Hello?" I tall muscular man asked.
"Hi," I greeted him, "Sorry to bother you, sir. But I'm looking for Sgt. Grant."
"Oh," he smiled. "Come on in. I'll go get her."
We stepped inside and were lead to the living room where a teenage boy sat on the couch. He introduced himself as Harry and we started small talk until the man that answered the door came back with Sgt. Grant.
"Mr. and Mrs. Patterson," she greeted us. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Sorry to disturb you so late at night," I politly apologized. "It's just, we were in the ciry, runnning some errunds, and some kid came out as gay to the whole city. Or, at least, anyone who was within earshot of his shouts."
Athena nodded, but I couldn't tell if she knew where this was going or not. So I carried on.
"Sgt. Grant, I know this sounds absolutly insane, but that was my son. And I figured you'd know something about it."
"Harry, Bobby," Athena turned to family, "Can you give us some privacy please?"
Harry and Bobby left the room and Athena turned her attention back to me.
"And the only reason I believe you might know something is because you and Officer Reyes were set on the thought that my son and his friends were murdered when anyone else, even me, would've left the cause of death at food poisoning. The only way you two could've known it was a murder was if you were told by the victims because you and I both know that Bobby never would've admitted it. Especially since he continued to plead not guilty after he was caught with the same poison found in my son's body."
I started to tear up thinking about Luke's death again. I miss that boy so much. And I'm not missing the chance the see him one more time. I feel awful about the way I treated him after I heard the song he wrote for me.
I took a deep breath, expecting Sgt. Grant to tell me I'm crazy and send me to a psych ward or something. But instead she remained neutral, no smile, no frown, nothing.
"Come with me," Athena said as she walked towards the front door. "There's no point in lying, he misses you, too."
I was so confused, but I followed her nonetheless. So did Mitch. We all got into her car, her driving, me in the passenger seat, and Mitch in the back, and we drove off.
We pulled into a driveway on the far side of the city on a road I didn't know was here.
"Who's house is this?" Mitch asked as he looked at the two story house in front of us.
"Officer Reyes' house," Sgt. Grant replied as she shut off the car and got out. We followed her to the front step and she knocked on the door.
A young man answered the door with a confused look, but he was smiling. Athena spoke under her breath to him and then we were let inside and led to their living room. No one was there and the man who answered the door, T.K is what Sgt. Grant called him, went upstairs.
A few moments later, Officer Reyes came down the stairs, but T.K wasn't with him.
"Hey Mr. and Mrs. Patterson, how are you?" Officer Reyes greeted.
"We've been better," I replied honestly.
"The Pattersons saw-" Sgt. Grant started, but Officer Reyes cut her off.
"T.K told me," he said, "he's looking for them."
Could these people be any more vague? It's kind of pissing me off. . . Excuse my French.
POV-Luke
"What are the odds?" Reggie asked.
T.K looked at him.
"My dad was there when Luke screamed from the rooftop," Reggie said nonchalantly. "But he came up to the roof and told me he was sorry or whatever, and wasn't at all angry with the fact that I was dating my best friend. Which is weird because he beat both of us when we were still just friends."
"Oh," T.K said, not really knowing how to reply. "Anyways, Luke, your parents are downstairs if you're ready to talk to them."
T.K gave me a warm smile before leaving our room. I leaned onto Reggie's shoulder and wrapped my arms around his body while I stared at the wall in front of me. Was I ready to see them? What if she tried to hug me and falls through me instead? What if she thinks my death proves that my dream wasn't worth chasing afterall? I still know she was wrong, but if she wants me to go back to her house? What if she doesn't support me and that's why she's here?
"Luke," Reggie whispered. I was suddenly aware of his one arm wrapped around me and he was running his fingers through my hair with his other hand. "It'll be okay. You don't have to see her if you don't want to."
"But I do want to talk to her," I replied. "I'm just scared."
"I'll go with you," Reggie rested his head on mine. "And if you want to leave, we will."
"Thank you, baby," I sat up and kissed him and we went down stairs.
We both decided to make ourselves visable so we didn't scare anybody. Everyone was standing in the living room except for T.K and Carlos. My parents had their backs to me, Athena was talking to Carlos and T.K and so no one saw us come down the stairs. And obviously no one heard us because we're air.
Reggie grabbed my hand as we walking towards the living room, but I was still terrified. I wonder if this is how Reggie felt when his dad was on the roof.
"H-Hi," I whispered. T.K had noticed us, but didn't say anything. I was standing a few feet away from my mom, and I just happened to speak when the room was silent. Which I was hoping I'd go unheard so I could go back upstairs and at least say I tried.
My mom whipped around at the sound of my voice and instantly started crying. I tilted my head up to the ceiling and blinked back a few tears. Reggie clung to my side, holding my arm instead of my hand now.
"Mom, please don't," was all I could say. No idea why I said it. Of course she'd be crying. I'm dead, but I'm standing in front of her.
"Luke?" my dad huffed out, amazed with me being here.
"The one and only," I smiled weakly.
After about an hour of my mom crying hystarically and everyone else just sitting there, we all finally started to talk. Athena went upstairs with T.K and Carlos to let my parents and I talk. And Reggie was going to go with them, but I begged him to stay with me. We were sitting on one couch and my parents were on the other and we were facing each other.
"So," my dad said awkwardly. "You and Reggie?"
Reggie seemed to have sunk into the couch and I kind of laughed at him, but took his hand in mine and put our hands on my lap.
"Yep, he's mine and I'm his," I told my dad, which made Reggie blush. "And if you have any issues with that, please, just leave before you cause more mental damage."
"More?" my dad asked.
"Yeah," I said. "Everything Mom's ever said about my dreams really fuckin' hurt."
Reggie put his head on my shoulder and I put my head on his. I'm so happy he's here right now. He is very comforting.
"Luke," my mom looked at me with sadness in her eyes, "I didn't know it was hurting you so bad. I just wanted to help you."
"Yeah," I rolled my eyes a little.
"Luke," my dad spoke, "we're not against the idea of you being with Reggie. We always suspected you had feelings for him.
