CADENCE DANIELS huffed as she juggled two duffel bags, a backpack, and several grocery bags in her arms while walking through the doorway of her new apartment. An apartment that she was expected to share with Steve Rogers, her newly found soulmate.
At least, newly found as in actually being able to talk to each other. Sharing in an apartment wasn't ideal, especially only saying a handful of words to each other, but Cadence didn't exactly have the money for another D.C. apartment and S.H.I.E.L.D. refused to pay for one when two soulmates could just share.
Cadence couldn't even get her old apartment back since it was taken so quickly after her lease ran out, luckily, her landlord had another complex (though this one was slightly bigger and nicer) that he was glad to rent out to Cadence and Steve at a discounted price per month as long as Steve promised to show up at his son's birthday party with the iconic shield.
"Here. Let me take that for you." Steve offered seconds before he grabbed at the grocery bags and backpack giving Cadence no time to object. Steve had been following Cadence around since the grocery store, not really knowing what to do with a world that had aged 66 years without him. Like what the hell were Pop-Tarts and why were they birthday cake flavored?
Before grabbing their personal items, Steve and Cadence had moved all her old apartment furniture out of storage and into this new apartment together. There was mostly silence between them while doing the task, but they did touch hands twice. Once while straightening a picture frame on the wall and another time while moving an L-shaped couch that was too bulky and "strange" for Steve to carry all by himself. Not that either of them counted...
As Steve dropped the grocery bags onto the kitchen counter, he sighed and Cadence could see a warm blush spreading from his neck and upwards.
"Listen, I'm really sorry about earlier." He apologized as he turned around, his gaze at Cadence's shoes.
Her eyebrows scrunched in confusion as she took the key from the doorknob and lifted her cat carrier out from the hallway, having to leave it there when attempting to open the door with her arms full.
"What do you mean?" She questioned, genuinely confused about what he could possibly be sorry for.
Steve rubbed the back of his neck as he felt his cheeks heat up, "The first thing I said to you? Th-The Hitler thing? I-I just didn't know what to say cause I've never had a soulmate before and then I thought about saying something that would impress you a-and it was the most unromantic thing to say ever and I really don't even know why I brought up a psychopath dictator that indirectly killed five million people."
"Actually, people have speculated that it's around eleven million." Cadence corrected then stopped herself, "Okay, I admit. Maybe now is not the time to bring that up."
