( an unexpected visitor at the apartment )
❝♛❞
As CADENCE walked behind Steve, her soulmate, as they ascended the stairs of their apartment, she couldn't help but think how she had the absolutely most perfect soulmate in all the universe.
In a cat carrier, in Steve's right hand, was Geronimo who had just gotten back from the vet with a clean bill of health. They had just picked up Geronimo after getting an extensive check up to make sure every was okay with the beloved cat so it was already dark outside when they got back from the vet. Geronimo had been the last patient of the day and was very spoiled in affection when Steve and Cadence came to pick him up.
Other than a small tip about not giving him as many treats as it definitely showed since the grey Maine Coon's last weigh in, Geronimo was a perfectly cat. Cadence would blame the extra weight on Steve indulging the cat way too much, but she knew she was just as guilty.
Geronimo had gotten quite close to Steve despite Gabe's annoyance since it disproved his theory about the cat not liking men, and Steve had gotten equally attached as well. The fluffy grey cat was large enough that Steve didn't have to worry about accidentally hurting him and Geronimo loved the heat that radiated off the super soldier.
They rounded the corner and entered their hallway, the cat carrier swaying back and forth slightly as Steve held it in a tight grip with a single hand.
Their neighbor, Kate, was outside of her apartment door with a laundry basket hitched on her hip and a phone to her ear. Cadence shot her a small wave and a quick smile before reaching for her key chain to open the door to their apartment.
"That's so sweet." Then there's a pause, "That is so nice. Hey. I gotta go, though." She clocks Cadence and Steve and nods in acknowledgement at them. "Okay, bye." She hangs up the phone and sighs, turning to the couple. Her eyes linger on their matching soulmate counters which lay on their arms, exposed to the world.
"My aunt, she's kind of an insomniac." Kate explains with a bit of embarrassment. She tucks a piece of her hair behind her ear and pockets her phone into the back of her scrubs.
Cadence waves it off and gives her an assuring smile, "Don't worry about it. If you're really in a pinch for laundry, you're welcome to use our machine. We finished ours today and it might be cheaper and easier than using that one down in the basement." Cadence kindly offers as she sees the full basket of clothes to be washed in the arms of the nurse.
Kate shakes her head, but returns the smile, "Thank you, but I've already got a load in downstairs. Plus, I really don't think you want my scrubs in your machine. I just finished orientation in the infectious disease ward." She explained, but her grateful tone sounded like she appreciated the offer.
