CADENCE giddily powerwalked down the hall of the labor and delivery ward of the hospital, a fresh vistors badge stuck onto her shirt as she searched the signs next to every single door on the hallway to find the one she was looking for.
It was only 6 a.m. in the morning and usually, Cadence and Steve would be gearing to go on their daily morning run, but it was only last night that Gabriel had called to let Cadence know that they were at the hospital because Elsie's contractions started.
"Come on!" She beckons, trying to be quiet and respectful to the other inhabitants of the floor. Cadence is tugging her hand behind her at Steve who awkwardly stumbles behind her, being pulled as Cadence refuses to let up at her quick pace.
"Aren't you tired?" Steve asks her, a chuckle escaping his lips at her insistence.
She should be. When Gabriel had called her late last night around 10 p.m., Cadence nearly bounced off the walls at the news. Her first nephew would be coming to the world in just a little bit. She had slept on her side to watch her phone on the nightstand, waiting on any news from her brother.
Steve's alarm had just gone off when Cadence's phone buzzed on the nightstand and she pulled him out of bed to quickly get dressed. They made a quick pitstop with a duffel bag at Gabriel and Elsie's house to grab a few things that they had requested.
"I am running off adrenaline and excitement." Cadence answered, "Oh!" She stopped in front of a door and brought her phone back out to confirm the room number.
Steve came over to her side and squeezed her hand once, a smile on his own face though not comparable to the huge grin on his soulmates. "Are you ready to meet your nephew?" He asked, rhetorically.
Before she can answer, the door in front of them opens from the inside and Gabriel's on the other side. He wears a tired smile and eye bags on his face, "Hey, you guys didn't have to come out here right away." was the first thing out of his mouth.
Cadence shook her head, "Nonsense. We would have been awake anyway and I wanted to get these to you as soon as possible." She then holds out the duffel bag on her arm.
Even though Elsie and Gabriel had packed a hospital bag and brought it with them last night, there were still a few things that they forgot and requested since they would probably be in the hospital for another night to monitor mother and baby.
Gabriel gratefully takes the bag from his little sister's outstretched hand, "Thanks again for this guys." He says, thanking both Cadence and Steve.
"No problem, man." This time Steve replies. Overtime and since the awkward dinner they shared together a couple weeks ago, Gabriel still didn't get along with Steve, per say, but Steve did gain some respect from Gabriel after saving New York City from an alien invasion.
