Chapter 17

Irene Pov

A lighting like strike went down my back the moment his hand touched my waist. An intense fire like sensation spread through my body and I inhaled sharply. Opening my eyes to see him right into the face with his smug grin. I knew he was a womanizer, his stories are known by the others of the guild and he himself told me of his past when he was drunk after one of our jobs. 

A man could have no hard consequences when he sleeps around with women. But I would have a major disadvantage if I got into that situation. Death and infections are only one small part of it, to add up on it even the psychology of a woman can suffer from casually sleeping around. Nature made it so that we would only sleep with one mate who we know will keep us save and fed. I made Erza learn all about what happens if she casually would sleep around and her reaction was more then enough to make me know she would never do it. Child rearing alone is no easy task to handle. 

I small tap on my head made my frown and glare at him. "Are you here you seem spaced out." Gildarts asked and I slouched down lightly. "I just got lost in thoughts." I replied and made a quick look around.

A small tug from him on my hand made me look back at him. "You seem a little pale Irene. Are you sure you are alright, maybe we should grab a bite." He replied and motioned with a nod to the tables full of delicious food.

I could smell the various dishes from here and it made my mouth water. I was hungry and I didn't want my stomach to rumble and embarrass me in front of him. "I'd like to." I replied sheepishly, nodding slowly while looking away from him.

A slight chuckle from him made me look back at him in wonder. "You really look adorable when you are embarrassed." He whispered and I blushed shamefaced. He very well knew I could hear him and he teases me a lot as it amuses him.

"How's your training with Erza going? Is she any good at enchanting?" He asked curiously which surprised me. I opened my mouth in shock at his question. He never asked me about it. I rubbed my hand on my arm as I remembered all the training we did in the past weeks with failed enchantments blowing up the area around us. It caused me to shudder remembering the one time Erza burned down my clothes and hers when she copied my disappear spell alarming most of Fiore with a giant explosion. Master Makarov was quite displeased with it. "Well she isn't as good as Wendy when it comes to creating enchantments, but she can easily copy all of the enchantments that I did. Even universe one and to a much greater force probably as well if you remember that small accident a while ago." I replied nervously and smiled a little crocked at him.

Gildarts ohed. "Right I remember it, we all hurried to your home and saw you lay flat in the bushes with just some rests of your clothes on while Erza changed her clothes on a whim when she noticed us coming." He replied and then grabbed one of the dishes as soon as we got there. 

I couldn't believe my eyes at how good this all looked it was just perfect. All bite sized and easy to hold without getting your hands dirty. I peeled of my right glove and laid on over my left arm grabbing one of the dishes. 

It was deer meat wrapped in dough, baked to perfection making the meat medium rare. I knew it from just its smell. I bit into it and tasted the savory note of meat mixed with earthy mushrooms and the crisp exterior of the golden baked dough. My tastebuds went over the edge from this salty and slight taste of umami. Pressing my arms tightly to my body I was shaking from this blissful sensation.

A snorting laugh made me perk up and I stared at Gildarts who looked like he was about to burst out laughing. I pouted and crossed my arms. "What?" I hissed as he kept staring at me. "Its nothing but you really seem to enjoy eating, don't you?" He asked raising an eyebrow and I nodded slowly looking down while biting my lower lip nervously. "I do you know, I've suffered a lot in my past and its only been a few months since I can taste again or better live like a normal human. The time I've thought about all the food I couldn't taste was horrible and now, you asked me to tag along in your jobs going from place to place eating all the local dishes and delicacies you made for me during our camping." I let out a sigh. "It really makes me wonder, if you only asked me to tag along for fun or for something more." I stated and he smiled softly at me.
