Tommy awoke the next morning with a deep ache in his bones. He groaned as he turned over, his brain rattling in his skull. He felt like he'd been hit by a falling tree.

"Da'?" A voice came from beside him. He looked over to see Isaac staring up at him, little head just poking up from under the covers. Isaac's eyes were bleary, and his nose was red. Tommy smiled softly down at him.

"Hi Isa. How are you feeling, little man?" He whispered, unwilling to break the morning calm, especially after the week he'd had. All he wanted was to lie in bed with his son and pretend they were back in their village, Raelyn cooking in the kitchen and Alex no doubt ready to knock down the door and announce something completely senseless. They were safe there. They were happy there. All he had to do was get through this week, and everything would be back to normal again.

Yesterday's impulsive idea's of chasing down Wilbur were pushed out of his mind and thoughts of staying in the room with his son replaced them. He was determined to spend his next few days in this hellhole doing nothing but caring for Isaac and maybe talking to Jack, because he was a little curious about what had been happening while he was gone.

"Head hurts." Isaac croaked, eyes watering. Tommy wanted to wipe the sad frown right off his son's adorable face.

"You know how we can fix that?" Tommy said, voice still soft, and poor Isaac's face contorted into that of horror. "Medicine."

"Noooooo!" He wailed. "It tastes bad!"

Tommy chuckled silently, slipping out of bed to go fetch the medicine Ponk had prescribed. "But it will make you better. Don't you want to get better?"

Isaac pouted, but didn't protest when Tommy brought the spoon to his lips. He gulped it down and made a face when it hit his taste buds.

"Feel better?" Tommy asked. Isaac turned his head away stubbornly, causing Tommy to chuckle. "You feel better don't you~"

Isaac continued to keep his face turned away, but Tommy could see him shaking with repressed giggles. He reached forward to tickle his son, determined to keep this morning between them and forget the world around them.

The world never took kindly to being forgotten.

A knock sounded through the room. Tommy stifled a sigh, and Isaac's head whipped around, eyes wide and trained on the door. Tommy pushed himself up from the bed, limbs feeling heavy.

"Give me a sec, Isa." Tommy said, patting him on the head placatingly. He moved to the door and opened it, exhaling a breath he didn't know he was holding when he saw who was on the other side. "Niki."

Niki smiled, and Tommy thought she was the only person in the city he'd greet with a smile. "Tommy." She said, and he had to stop himself from throwing his arms around her. He was a grown adult now, goddamnit.

"Niki, hi." He said. "What brings you here?"

"Tubbo told me you were here," She said, and his smile dropped.

Did I proof read this? No.
Is that last line completely unsatisfactory? Yes.
Have I been gone for over a month? I think so.

SORRY GANG!

To be fair, I had to hand in three assignments last week, received three assignments in turn and then I relapsed. And then my school flooded, which was more fun than bad but everything got a bit chaotic after that. And then I lost use of my hand for a few days.

THANKS FOR READING AND ALL YOUR KIND COMMENTS IN THE MEAN TIME THOUGH! NEXT CHAPTER WILL BE OUT SOON I HOPE!
