Sirius's POV
August 31, 1976

He was no stranger to the smell of chocolate and blood mixed. However on a night that was not the full moon, the scent worried Sirius immensely.

"Remus," he muttered. Looking over at a rather lanky boy with Brown hair. Scars ran along his arms and face. Sirius didn't care about the scars. He thought they made him look tuff and interesting.

There were so many boring people out there. Remus lupin was not one.

Remus was currently sipping on a hot chocolate, his knuckles bloody. He had just sat next to Sirius at the leaky cauldron.

"Yes?" Remus raised a brow, the young wizard didn't seem to care that he was bleeding. Typical.

"Your knuckles, the blood? Care to share with the class about that?" Sirius took a sip of his butterbeer.

"It's nothing."

"Like hell it is."
James and Peter heard them talking and walked over. The gang was officially completed.

"What's going on, Black, Lupin?" James watched his best friends wearily. Then saw Remus hand. "What happened?"

"Yeah what happened?" Peter piped up.

"Come on Remus," Sirius whispered in his ear, knowing it would get him to spill. "Please."

"Oh fine, prats the whole lot of you." He gestured for them all to lean in closer. "I may have punched someone."

Peter's eyes widened. He didn't have the stomach for violence, he hated it whenever Sirius or the other did such things. But Remus rarely was like that, which made this all the more interesting.

"Oh lupin I'm so proud." Siris clasped his shoulder.

"Who did you punch?" James asked with a smile.

Remus shifted under his hand and Sirius let go. He wanted to know badly now.

"Severus. He deserved it though. Sorry James. Lily saw part of it." Remus didn't sound overly sorry for it.

"That's alright Lupin." James looked thoughtful.

"You finally punched Snivilus did you? What did he do this time?"

"He said some rather unsavory things about muggles. And then some rather rude things about myself. Lily walked in afterwards of course, during me actually punching him."

"Well deserved then." James smiled. "Pity about your hand. But it'll heal quickly I bet."

"Most likely." Remus smirked.

The ordered more butterbeer. As soon as he was old enough Sirius planned on buying them fire whisky to try. Only a few more months.

Remus had finished his chocolate and accepted the butter beer. Sirius left to pay the tab and returned to his friends. James gave him a knowing look.

"Sirius, how did you piss your mother off this time?"

Sirius's lips twitched until he gave an easy smile.
"Whatever could you mean James? I would never upset mummy dearest." He said sweetly.

James snorted and Remus rolled his eyes.

"Seriously, Sirius. Your brother seemed annoyed when I bumped into him earlier. He muttered something about idiot brothers. Thankfully for me he only has the one."

Now it was Sirius' turn to roll his eyes.

"You're a git. I may have posted some things up on my wall, that my mother can not take down. Even with powerful magic." Sirius was rather proud of that.

Peter looked at him in awe. He was always looking at them like that. Sometimes it irritated Sirius, Peter was intelligent enough to do tricks. Other times, like these, it made him feel good.

"And what did you post up?" Remus inquired.

"Nothing much, just some gryffindor posters, a shrine to our dear Godric Gryffindor of course. Let's see what else? Oh some lovely art of motorcycles and jet planes. And some naked muggle women bathing." He sipped his butterbeer as his friends burst out laughing, except Peter,Peter turned red.

"You're a dog Sirius. Come one, let's go get some sweets for our journey tomorrow?" James cheered. The others agreed and headed out.

"One more night of freedom before school," Sirius said cheerfully. In reality school was the closest thing he had to freedom.

"Then let's celebrate. And prepare for a fantastic year."

The four boys walked through all of Diagon Alley. Purchasing all the needed for school, last minute textbooks for Peter. A new set of robes for Remus, he had grown since the last school term. A quill for James because he kept losing his. and Sirius purchased a thing of hair potion, much the James' delight.

"You know dad would've given you a free bottle."

"Yes, but I like supporting the family." The ate too much ice-cream and looked dreamily at the brooms.

"James you're captain this year. Get a new broom if you want." Peter declared after they spent an hour in the quidditch shop. He was rather tired of it.

"Mum would kill me. Besides my broom is good." Remus and Sirius looked at each other then back at the broom.

Remus's eyes meant to say, "should we get it for him?"

Sirius nodded and mouthed "for Christmas."

Remus smiled, and nodded back. He went to distract James as Sirius went to purchase it. He knew it was not the smartest idea to spend a large sum of his money before the beginning of the year.

Good thing he had worked over the summer.

The broom would be delivered by owl a week before Christmas.

When he joined back with the others he felt Remus slip money into his pocket. He hated that. He didn't want to take Remus' money. But he knew he wouldn't appreciate it being returned. So instead he left it and thought of ways to give it back to Remus without him noticing.

"Took you long enough, come one. Mum and Dad want us at the cauldron for dinner."

James led the way, a king of gryffindor youth. And his closest campaigns followed to the dining hall.
~~~
Sirius was very aware of how close Remus was to him. Their arms touched and he felt very warm.
The meal was delicious, the cooks at the leaky cauldron made warm and melt in your moth food. Better than a muggle pub's food.
Sirius delighted in this and ate his fill. The potters, now getting on in years, were extremely happy to see their children. While Peter, Remus, and Sirius were not their actual children they loved them that way.
"Sirius, Darling, you look pale. Have you been getting enough time outside?" Mrs. Potter worried.
"Yes ma'am, I take walks every weeks." It wasn't a lie. "I've just been working in doors."
She nodded, pleased by the answer.
"Aw Peter, how was your summer? We barely saw you at all."
Sirius tuned out as Peter described his summer hunting all the garden gnomes at his uncles estate.
Instead he studied Remus as he drank a goblet of pumpkin juice. His friend still seemed tired, the last full moon must've really taken a toll on him. It had been weeks ago. And it was close to the next one.
He tuned back in when Peter started talking about a new quidditch team he started liking. James was very passionately arguing it and Sirius couldn't resist teasing both sides.
After a wonderful meal, the potters retired to bed and the boys all debated on what to do. Finally they settled on drinking hot beverages and planning the many tricks they planned on doing.
The next night they would be at hogwarts. They would be home.
